I came from two broken feet, chronic pain throughout my body, and small reoccurring nagging injuries.

For years, I pushed through, disconnected from what my body was really trying to tell me while searching for answers.

It wasn’t until I slowed down and started listening to my body and practicing these simple, foundational movements that things began to change.

These slower, intentional patterns rebuilt my foundation.
They gave me strength, awareness, and trust in my body again.

Now I feel confident, agile, and free to express movement in any way I choose being guided by a healthier sense of awareness.

These are the movements that sustains me.

The foundation behind the expression.

This is why I love training the way that I train.

It prepares me for any different type of activity I love to do or want to try. It gives me a strong foundation of body awareness, athleticism, mobility, strength, that’s adaptable to many different things, many different activities. by @_theprimalway_

Here’s the breakdown 👇

1. Get your springiness back. 🐇

For 1–2 weeks, spend a few minutes each day doing light hops on the balls of your feet. Keep the movement relaxed and springy, building strength and elasticity through your feet and ankles. Try to keep your heels from repeatedly dropping to the ground.

2. Take it to the grass.

Once hopping feels comfortable, get barefoot on a grass field. Start with the same springy hopping motion, then gradually lean forward and let the hops turn into a slow trot.

Think about staying light and springy through the feet and letting that spring propel you forward rather than forcing yourself to take big steps.

3. Gradually build up intensity and pick up the pace.

As your body gets comfortable, slowly increase your speed and allow your stride to lengthen naturally.

The sequence:
Walk → jog → walk → jog in a big circle until you feel your body fatiguing.

Let your body adapt before pushing it harder.

4. Choose your goal.

🏃‍♂️ Want more distance?
Gradually increase the amount of time you jog before walking. Over time, build from short intervals toward longer continuous runs, eventually working toward a mile and beyond.

⚡ Want more speed?
Keep your running intervals shorter and make them faster, with plenty of walking/rest between sprints. Over the course of several weeks, gradually increase the speed and intensity.

5. Build toward sprinting.

If your goal is to sprint again, give yourself time. Start with controlled faster running and, once your body is adapting well, work toward higher speeds 1–2 times per week.

Trust the process. Try to stay as consistent as possible and allow your body time to adapt.

Spending time barefoot on a grass field can be a great way to build overall foot and lower-body strength while reconnecting with the ground.

Give your body the time and practice it needs, and let the running come back naturally. by @_theprimalway_

How I trained my feet to run a Spartan Race barefoot? 👣👇

1) take your time and Trust the process.

If you’re not used to being barefoot, start by walking, then gradually work your way into running barefoot on a grass field. Start with short sessions once or twice a week and give your body time to adapt. The grass acts as great padding to allow for you to feel safe when first starting to run barefoot.

And a good rule of thumb is to walk the area you are about to run and check for anything that may hurt your foot.

2) Alongside that, spend some time walking barefoot on nature trails with uneven terrain. Roots, rocks, changes in elevation and different textures under your feet all give your feet a chance to adapt and build resilience, including developing more natural padding along the soles.

Don’t rush it. Let your feet strengthen and adapt over time.

And begin to experience the incredibly freeing and invigorating feeling of moving through the world barefoot. 🌿 by @_theprimalway_

I’ve lost the ability to Sprint multiple times in my adult life.

Maybe “forgot” is a better word.

Whether it came from a long stent of being inactive or focusing the majority of my physical energy on manual labor jobs — if I didn’t use it, I’d lose it.

Then, I’d take a slow progressive journey back to being able to sprint again comfortably pain-free and without injury.

If you’ve lost the ability or confidence to be able to sprint, jump, or any other movement for that matter.. Through a slow, strategic, playful, and progressive process, you can work to gain those abilities.

If you would like some guidance from someone who has had to relearn the skills themselves, dm me and I can help you figure out the right process for yourself to be able to do the same. by @_theprimalway_
