🌿 YUKUNAHU NII VIMI JOURNEY
15–25 january 2027
We, at Matrinchã Village, open our doors to welcome those who wish to experience a deeper connection with our rainforest and Yawanawá culture.
For 10 days, we invite you to immerse yourselves in our daily life, sharing moments with our elders, leaders, and families, and learning through presence, listening, and cultural exchange.

The Nii Vimi Journey is an experience of knowledge being passed from one generation to the next, from deep roots to the fruits. Throughout the journey, we will share rainforest walks, learning about medicinal plants, traditional plant and Mapu clay baths, body painting, traditional songs and music, Indigenous crafts, Rapé and Kuripe making, integration circles, and traditional ceremonies.

More than simply taking part in activities, we invite you to live at the rhythm of our village, share in our daily life, and allow the rainforest and its knowledge to become teachers along the way.

CAN WE CHANGE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH DEATH?

Psychedelics are increasingly being studied as a way to support people facing life-threatening illness and death. Clinical trials are asking whether a psychedelic experience can ease fear, anxiety and existential distress at the end of life.

Early research suggests psychedelic-assisted therapy may help some people facing serious illness experience less anxiety, depression and fear around death. Some participants describe greater acceptance, connection and meaning.

But psychedelic end-of-life care isn't only a conversation about treatment. It asks bigger questions about how we understand death, what it means to prepare for it, and whether facing our mortality differently might also change the way we live.

These are some of the questions explored in Edge of Life, which I'm bringing to St Leonards on *17 September

After the screening we'll be joined by Yawa Tume and Mew of the Yawanawá people of the Brazilian Amazon for conversation, Q&A and traditional songs.

17 September · St Leonards Church · From 6pm

Rapéh Making Workshop

It is with great joy that, for the first time in England, we are bringing together a special gathering dedicated to the traditional preparation of rapéh, an Indigenous medicine made from tobacco and tree ashes.

This will be a opportunity to experience and learn more closely about the traditional process of preparing rapéh, while also deepening our understanding of aspects of Yawanawá culture and cosmology.

We will be guided by Mew Yawanawá, a respected leader from Matrinxã Village, who will be joining us together with his daughter, Yawatume, to share their knowledge, teachings, and experience, and to guide us through this special gathering.

It will be a time to come together to learn, share, sing, pray, and connect with the ancestral knowledge and traditional processes involved in the preparation of rapéh.

If you feel the call to join us, please get in touch. We will be happy to share more information with you. ✨ taken in Inti & Waira House by @_vickee

On 17th September, in collaboration with the Psychedelic Society, I'm bringing Edge of Life to St Leonards, followed by a conversation, Q&A and traditional songs with Yawa Tume and Mew, from the Yawanawá people of the Brazilian Amazon.

As psychedelics become more mainstream in the West, we have a responsibility to keep asking where all of this comes from. There's so much excitement around the psychedelic "renaissance", but these medicines and ways of working with them didn't begin with us.

We're very good at taking the bits that serve us and forgetting the lineages and knowledge that came before.

Particularly as I find myself working more in this space, I feel a responsibility to keep learning, to honour the people and traditions that have carried this knowledge, and to think about reciprocity. Not just what we receive, but what we give back.

I definitely don't have all the answers, but I think it's important to keep asking the questions.

Yawanawá songs have accompanied some pretty profound moments in my life and stayed with me afterwards. They've helped me bring some of those experiences into everyday life – back to myself, my soul... or whatever you want to call it!

Then there's death.

I was with my mum when she died. Things happened in those last days that I didn't understand at the time and think about very differently now. What I'd give to go back with some of the understanding I have now... but I guess that's all part of my journey!

My own experiences with altered states have changed my relationship with death too. Something I was once irrationally terrified of now feels more mysterious, less frightening and perhapseven beautiful. A kind of coming home, maybe?

So join us for a film about psychedelics and the end of life, for Yawa and Mew sharing their perspectives and songs with us, and for a conversation about some things we could all be a little less afraid to talk about.

❤️
This one is close to my heart.

We’re happy to share that we will be receiving these beautiful people for another beautiful weekend together. It is possible to stay 1 or 2 nights of ceremony with us.

From 11-13 September, the great spiritual leader of his people @mewyawanawa will be joined by his eldest daughter Yawatume. A devoted student of the Yawanawa traditions and spirituality, and a gifted young musician.

Together, they will be sharing the beauty of their traditional medicines, prayers, songs, and ancestral teachings, offering a rare opportunity to connect with the wisdom and spirit of the forest.

These gatherings are not only about ceremony. It’s about supporting their lineage, their work and the wider Yawanawá community. By opening these circles, we help support their culture, protect their land and allow their medicine to be shared in a respectful way.

If you feel called to join us, please DM @palomaya_x or @indykluijtmans your e-mail address, and we’ll share more information about the gathering.

These gatherings offer a space to slow down, listen and reconnect. Through the medicines with prayers and chants, many people experience deep relaxation, emotional release and a deeper connection with themselves and nature. Each person receives exactly what they need in that moment. 🌿

Over the years, through these gatherings and the many visits of different Indigenous families, a wonderful community has grown. It has become a place where familiar faces reunite, new friendships are formed, and people come together with open hearts to learn, share, and connect.

We’d love to welcome you into this special circle.

Today we celebrate the release of the first album by Yskunvasi Yawanawa, now available on Spotify.

It has been a great honour to work alongside Yskunvasi and help bring this project into the world. The album is a collection of songs inspired by the sacred prayers and teachings of the Yawanawa tradition, expressed through Yskuns own voice and musical interpretation.

This release also honours the work of her father, Mew, and the school he founded, Yuku Nahu Niivimi “The Seed of the Fruit” dedicated to preserving and sharing the culture, wisdom, spirituality, and traditions of the Yawanawa people.

More than an album, this is a celebration of a living culture and a way for these songs, prayers, and teachings to reach new listeners around the world.

We invite you to listen, share, and support this beautiful release.

May these songs travel far and carry the spirit of the forest to all who hear them.

Available now on Spotify.

An invitation to open your heart and deepen into the wisdom of the traditional songs of the Yawanawá people, guided by the feminine strength of Yskûvasi Yawanawá 🌿

The saitis are sacred chants of the Yawanawá people, which help balance the force of Uni and connect us to the spiritual realm. In this gathering, you will learn both the traditional vocal chants and their melodies on the guitar.

Learning from a young woman dedicated to the study of prayer and translation is a special opportunity, especially at a time when many people access these chants through platforms like Spotify and YouTube, which can lead to interpretations or pronunciations that are distant from their true meaning.

Group classes 🌿
Private classes: availability upon request

📅 When? 2 Sundays per month at 7:00 PM (BST – British summer Time)

💻 Where? Online, via Google Meet or Zoom (recordings available for those who cannot attend live)

PDF with lyrics and chords provided.

✨Rapé Ceremony Mew and Yskunvasi 🌿

Mew and Yskunvasi, from the Yawanawa people, are arriving in Ireland for the first time to share their strength, their history, and their ancestral knowledge. They bring with them the sacred medicines of rapé and sananga, offering a very special opportunity to experience these traditions directly with people from the forest.

RUME / RAPÉ: Fine powder made from the ashes of tobacco combined with the ashes of tree barks, herbs, and other plants. Blowing through the nose using sacred instruments called Tepi and kuripe, rapé is a medicine that brings grounding, stability, energetic cleansing, connection, and relief from troubled thoughts. It also offers the benefit of treating respiratory diseases and migraines.
