CAN WE CHANGE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH DEATH?

Psychedelics are increasingly being studied as a way to support people facing life-threatening illness and death. Clinical trials are asking whether a psychedelic experience can ease fear, anxiety and existential distress at the end of life.

Early research suggests psychedelic-assisted therapy may help some people facing serious illness experience less anxiety, depression and fear around death. Some participants describe greater acceptance, connection and meaning.

But psychedelic end-of-life care isn't only a conversation about treatment. It asks bigger questions about how we understand death, what it means to prepare for it, and whether facing our mortality differently might also change the way we live.

These are some of the questions explored in Edge of Life, which I'm bringing to St Leonards on *17 September

After the screening we'll be joined by Yawa Tume and Mew of the Yawanawá people of the Brazilian Amazon for conversation, Q&A and traditional songs.

On 17th September, in collaboration with the Psychedelic Society, I'm bringing Edge of Life to St Leonards, followed by a conversation, Q&A and traditional songs with Yawa Tume and Mew, from the Yawanawá people of the Brazilian Amazon.

As psychedelics become more mainstream in the West, we have a responsibility to keep asking where all of this comes from. There's so much excitement around the psychedelic "renaissance", but these medicines and ways of working with them didn't begin with us.

We're very good at taking the bits that serve us and forgetting the lineages and knowledge that came before.

Particularly as I find myself working more in this space, I feel a responsibility to keep learning, to honour the people and traditions that have carried this knowledge, and to think about reciprocity. Not just what we receive, but what we give back.

I definitely don't have all the answers, but I think it's important to keep asking the questions.

Yawanawá songs have accompanied some pretty profound moments in my life and stayed with me afterwards. They've helped me bring some of those experiences into everyday life – back to myself, my soul... or whatever you want to call it!

Then there's death.

I was with my mum when she died. Things happened in those last days that I didn't understand at the time and think about very differently now. What I'd give to go back with some of the understanding I have now... but I guess that's all part of my journey!

My own experiences with altered states have changed my relationship with death too. Something I was once irrationally terrified of now feels more mysterious, less frightening and perhapseven beautiful. A kind of coming home, maybe?

So join us for a film about psychedelics and the end of life, for Yawa and Mew sharing their perspectives and songs with us, and for a conversation about some things we could all be a little less afraid to talk about.

❤️
This one is close to my heart.

✨ Dear Family, ✨

With open hearts and deep gratitude, we are honoured to welcome Mew & Yawatume of the Yawanawá people of the Brazilian Amazon to The Lighthouse Hub, Manchester, for a rare three-day cultural exchange. 🌿🐍

28th–30th August | The Lighthouse Hub, Manchester

This gathering is an invitation to pause, listen deeply, and connect respectfully with the living traditions of the Yawanawá people — carried through generations in sacred song, prayer, ceremony, plant wisdom, art, and a profound relationship with Mother Earth.

Across these three days, Mew and Yawatume will share aspects of their ancestral culture through:

🌿 Two traditional Yawanawá ceremonies
🎶 Sacred songs, prayers & ancestral teachings
🌱 Medicinal plant wisdom
🔥 Rapé & Sananga
🎨 Traditional Kene face painting
🤍 Group integration & community connection
🍲 Nourishing meals
🌙 Overnight accommodation in the ceremony space for full-retreat participants

Mew has dedicated his life to preserving and sharing the sacred traditions of his people through Indigenous teachings, healing practices, and the wisdom of the Amazon rainforest.

His daughter Yawatume, an Indigenous leader, artist, and Biomedical Sciences student, beautifully bridges ancestral knowledge with her journey through modern science.

This is more than a retreat.

It is a meeting of hearts, cultures, and ways of knowing. A space to listen with humility, reconnect with ourselves and one another, and remember our deeper relationship with nature.

We gather with respect — not to consume culture, but to honour it. Not simply to learn about an ancient tradition, but to meet the people who carry these teachings and support the continuation of their cultural heritage.

🌎 May this gathering become a bridge between worlds, generations, and hearts.

📅 28th–30th August
📍 @the_lighthouse_hub Manchester

💌 DM us to join or receive full retreat contribution details.

Spaces are intentionally limited to preserve the intimacy and integrity of this special gathering.

With love, respect & gratitude. 🤍🌿✨

We’re happy to share that we will be receiving these beautiful people for another beautiful weekend together. It is possible to stay 1 or 2 nights of ceremony with us.

From 11-13 September, the great spiritual leader of his people @mewyawanawa will be joined by his eldest daughter Yawatume. A devoted student of the Yawanawa traditions and spirituality, and a gifted young musician.

Together, they will be sharing the beauty of their traditional medicines, prayers, songs, and ancestral teachings, offering a rare opportunity to connect with the wisdom and spirit of the forest.

These gatherings are not only about ceremony. It’s about supporting their lineage, their work and the wider Yawanawá community. By opening these circles, we help support their culture, protect their land and allow their medicine to be shared in a respectful way.

If you feel called to join us, please DM @palomaya_x or @indykluijtmans your e-mail address, and we’ll share more information about the gathering.

These gatherings offer a space to slow down, listen and reconnect. Through the medicines with prayers and chants, many people experience deep relaxation, emotional release and a deeper connection with themselves and nature. Each person receives exactly what they need in that moment. 🌿

Over the years, through these gatherings and the many visits of different Indigenous families, a wonderful community has grown. It has become a place where familiar faces reunite, new friendships are formed, and people come together with open hearts to learn, share, and connect.

We’d love to welcome you into this special circle.

Amaru

We are Vic and Josh

Amaru grew from a shared love of making things by hand and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Although we come from different places—Scotland and Brazil, we discovered the same fascination with the beauty, character, and stories found in nature.

The forests, landscapes, and ecosystems that have shaped our lives continue to shape our work. From native woods and bamboo to naturally shed or respectfully sourced materials, every piece begins with something that already carries its own history. Rather than hiding the marks left by nature, we celebrate them, allowing each material to guide the process and making every piece completely unique.

Our travels have introduced us to remarkable people and many different traditions of craftsmanship. Among the experiences that have stayed with us most is the time we have spent alongside Indigenous communities in Brazil. Their knowledge, artistry, and relationship with nature continue to inspire us, reminding us to work with care, respect the materials we use, and never lose sight of where they come from.

Today, we create handcrafted pieces from wood, bamboo, bone, and other natural materials. We don’t create for mass production. Instead, we choose to make each piece slowly and by hand, giving every material the time and attention it deserves.

Some of our work also incorporates bones from animals that have died in road accidents. We would never support the taking of an animal’s life for our craft. Instead, we see these materials as an opportunity to honour a life that has already come to an end, transforming what remains into something beautiful and meaningful with care and respect.

Thank you for visiting Amaru.

We hope our work brings a little bit of the natural world into your home and into the rituals of everyday life. Whether it becomes part of a simple moment to pause and reconnect with nature, we hope each unique piece finds the right place to be.

Rapéh and Cacao Ceremony 🍫🌿✨

Dear brothers and sisters,
On Saturday May 30th, at 19:00 PM in Haaren, we will gather again for a Rapéh and Cacao ceremony, ancestral medicines that open the heart and strengthen the connection with the forest and the sacred.

It will be a night of prayer, a space of reconnection with oneself and with the ancestral wisdom of the Indigenous from Brasil.

Josh and Vic have been walking for the past 5+ years as apprentices and guardians alongside Indigenous peoples. Throughout this journey, they have completed sacred diets and learned directly from elders and shamans, immersing themselves in ancestral traditions and carrying with them a spirit of respect and gratitude.

A night to honor the medicines of the forest, to open the heart ❤️🦋

Date: Saturday May 30th 2026
Arrival: From 18:30
Start Ceremony: 19:00 PM
End Ceremony: 23:00 PM
Address: Haaren, North-Brabant, The Netherlands 🇳🇱

If you feel called to join us again for an evening to celebrate life and nature together, you can send a message to @palomaya_x, who can provide more information.

With love,
Josh, Vic, & Paloma

It was a great honor to once again capture moments of the sacred medicine, Hapeh circle and concert.

I am so grateful to Mew and Yskunvasi Yawanawá for coming to the UK to share their culture. It was a powerful experience with beautiful music, and as always, I felt deeply connected to it.

Wow, what a weekend. It has been one of the most extraordinary and heartfelt experiences of my life. A father and daughter from the Yawanawa tribe came to the Netherlands to share and exchange their culture. Over these days, I have seen and learned more than I could have imagined. ✨❤️ I feel deeply and endlessly grateful for this experience.

I hope that one day I may visit them in their homeland, in the Amazones, to witness the way they live. In harmony, as one with nature. This weekend has awakened within me a deeper connection to Mother Nature, one I will carry with me always. ❤️ Thankyou so so much. Pachamama🍀✨
