Last- Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson
You know when you’ve looked forward to reading a book for a long time and the book delivered? That’s exactly how reading this book was for me. Absolutely, absolutely recommend.

Now- What Happened to Janet Uzor by Miracle Emeka-Nkwor
I did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I did. I absolutely would recommend this to a teenager (and YA). It is exactly the kind of book I’d have loved to read at that age. Also, if you love thrillers and whodunnit, this would be right up your alley.
*made a mistake in the video but was too invested to delete. The right phrasing is actually- Ebere refuses to believe that the death of Janet Uzor is anything but a murder.

Next- In Our Own Ways by Yejide Kilanko
Super excitedddddd to buddy-read this with Tobe (@whattobeisupto ). This book has been on my tbr for a while now, and what better time to read it than #readnaijaoctober ?

Putting you on to some of the really good books I’ve read lately:

1. Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (best read as an immersive read btw);
2. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah (will I ever shut up about this book? Maybe in another lifetime.);
3. For Such a Time as This by Shani Akilah (astounding debut!);
4. The Lies We Tell by Fatima Bala (I finished this in one sitting, so say to say that pre-adulthood Mo is back!);
5. A Broken People’s Playlist by Chimeka Garricks (I’m a firm believer in rereading your favourites to see if they still hold up. This definitely did!);
6. Tomorrow Died Yesterday by Chimeka Garricks (please give this man his flowers. Two masterpieces!?)
7. What a Mother’s Love Don’t Teach You by Sharma Taylor (maybe one day I’ll give a detailed review of how I felt reading this book);
8. Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson (I was right! I finished this book and it is definitely a five star!).

Which one have you read? Which one are you adding to your tbr?

September was the month I took my reading goal seriously. A whopping 9 books!

I read across four genres: literary fiction, historical fiction, romance and short stories. I also reread two books and listened to my first-ever audiobook!

I had such a good reading month, and I hope I can keep that momentum in October. šŸ¤žšŸ¾

#shortstoryseptember

My favourite bit about short stories is the license to make up an ending for a character. You can spend just a few pages with a character, a family, a place or a moment, and maybe it’s the shortness of the pages, but there’s something about the seeming unfinishedness that grounds the stories for me.

Some collections made me laugh (Nearly All the Men in Lagos Are Mad), some made me cry (A Broken People’s Playlist), while others made me look at familiar things differently (This Thing Called Love).

currently reading: For Such a Time as This.

QOTD: what is the most memorable collection of short stories you’ve ever read? For me, it has to be A Broken People’s Playlist. by @_whatmoreads

Book Review || If You Must Hide by Adeboro Odunlami

I took a break from my current read at the time to read this book, and I finished it in one sitting. That’s how good it was. The writing, the conversations between the main characters, the perfect blend of wit and banter!

The only thing I did not like (as I have mentioned several times in this video 😭) was the cliffhanger at the end. I’m not a patient person, so I avoid incomplete trilogies at all costs.

PS: Who else read and enjoyed this book?

PSS: @adeborois please, when are you releasing the rest of the books?? by @_whatmoreads

what my August reads taught me…

#augustreads #augustwrapup #booklessons #bookwrapup #bookish

from The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, I learnt that there are no winners in war.

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke reaffirmed what I’ve always known about self deceit being the worst kind of deception.

from The Marriage Monitoring Aunties’ Association by Ola Awonubi, I learnt that it’s never too late to find the love of your life.

Live for me, Nkem by Nneka Oluoha reinforced the importance of acceptance in any healing process.

from What a Mother’s Love Don’t Teach You by Sharma Taylor, I learnt that there are some losses you never recover from.

in Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal, I learnt the importance of unlearning indoctrinations that inhibit fulfilment.

The Full Picture by Jessica Carmichael reminded me to be true to myself. by @_whatmoreads
