Piracy lovers and AI haters, join me for a screening of Partners in Crime (2011)) at @_atlas_cinema on April 18th. 🌹📀🏴‍☠️ ——— Who owns a song: the person who made it or the person who paid for it? Is piracy organized crime or class struggle? Is the fine line between plagiarism and inspiration a cop-out, or a whole new way of looking at the fluid nature of authorship, perhaps even a whole new kind of cultural freedom? Full of wicked irony, great music, and thorny questions about culture, ownership, creativity, and authorship, the documentary Partners in Crime (2011) travels to various parts of India to explore the grey horizons of copyright and culture in the midst of dramatic technological and economic change. Metalheads who market their own music, folklorists who turn tribal aphorisms into short stories, music archivists who hoard and share everything they can get their hands on, anti-piracy fanatics who think piracy funds terrorism, a smooth-talking DVD street salesman who outlines the efficiency of the illegal market, media moguls and lobbyists: these are the fascinating figures who throng the global bazaar at the heart of Partners in Crime. This is a love story, and the path of love never runs smooth. Directed by the brilliant Paromita Vohra @bombay.rosie @parodevipictures 🫡 Doors open 6:30pm Screening starts at 7pm 📍Atlas Cinema SW9 7FA SEE U THERE ❤️ by @_wtfami
@hausofbhaus and @harkat.studios present ‘Jhumkewali’ - a sweet, sapphic, 70’s show! 🌷 🗓️ 22nd March 2025 🕰️ 7:00pm 📍 Harkat Studios, Versova 🎟️ LINK IN BIO! In classic girl-meets-girl fashion, Rekha and Bindu collide over a lost-and-found earring in the corridors of Sophia College for Women. They are young, hopeful and always late to catch the local train. They waltz around Bombay to the sound of Rekha’s jangling ears, and their affection slowly blossoms over chai-sutta, stolen nights at the disco, and each other’s company. But it’s the 1970s, and Bindu and Rekha must navigate a Bombay dogged with rising prices and unrest in their quest to set up their first ‘proper’ date. A tender, nostalgic unfurling of first love and coming-of-age in a turbulent city, ‘Jhumkewali’ brings to life the spaces and memories of a past Bombay.
