My back hurts.
It sits between my left shoulder blade and spine, between self loathing and shame.
Below expectations.

It radiates to my head.
Causes anguish and despair, a stiff neck and regret with memories I've repressed. My back hurts.

I feel it in my fingers.
Tingles of disdain, repression and restrain. Self sacrifice.
My back hurts.

This is where I hold my trauma and pain.

Amina Gimba is an accomplished visual artist, illustrator, graphic designer, and muralist with a diverse creative practice spanning more than a decade. With a style rooted in raw, emotive expression, Gimba moves fluidly across scales from painting large-format murals at street festivals to creating intricate book covers, graphic novels, private portraits, and corporate editorial graphics. Their seasoned independent workflow has made them a sought-after collaborator for global advocacy groups, human rights platforms, and development agencies, including the ONE Campaign, Taboom Media, GALA, Take Back The Tech, and GIZ (The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). Across mediums, the work serves as a vehicle for storytelling, balancing human vulnerability with disciplined graphic structure.

A look inside their sketchbook reveals a key driver of this style: consistency and an unwavering commitment to creative expression. These pages operate as a space for uninhibited visual experimentation, marked by thick, energetic linework, dense wax-crayon or oil-pastel textures, and a visceral approach to color relationships. The drawings explore recurring themes of human connection, bodily emotion, and structural identity. By stepping away from sterile, hyper-refined digital vectors in these personal studies, Amina uses rough cross-hatching, heavy contour lines, and layered, tactile mixes of media to document a raw visual sociology that feels both ancient and intensely contemporary.

Amina’s command of stylized anatomical forms, text framing, and organic background patterning is well established. The sketchbook entries show an extraordinary range of emotional states and graphic execution. The work often features bold profiles of Black figures outlined in heavy black lines and embellished with minimalist gold jewelry, geometric chest markings, and stylized tropical foliage underscoring a rare ability to blend fine-art texture with production-ready graphic layout mechanics.

12 editions. 12 posters.

A full calendar year of RAWA, and every single edition has had a poster worth keeping. RAWA attendees collect them, take them home, frame them, and put them on their walls. That level of attachment to a piece of event material doesn’t happen by accident.

Our Creative Director @a.foramina has designed every RAWA poster from 001 to 012 without missing once!

Here’s to her, and to many more posters 🪩💚 by @a.foramina

Omoge you fine o!

I've been obsessed with this song, the original by Sir Shina and Falz did an amazing job with it.

This is an illustration for @rawafunk and this song captures where my head was at when I was drawing it.
