A Slice of Ham presents: ReaDJ, Steady, Cook. Saturday May 9th, @bowlersrest in Leith, 5-Midnight.

To start the night there will be a pub quiz by the one and only @olsmiddy. Teams of 4 max. There will be prizes.

Teams of 2 DJs will battle it out to earn the title of Ultimate DJ (in the EH6 area). The twist - they don’t have their trusty USB sticks. Instead they will be presented with a USB / bag of records decided by you, the public.

More details to come over the next week.

All proceeds to @edinburghnefoodbank (recommended cash donation, or look up what items the food bank needs on their website). taken in The Bowlers Rest by @a.slice_of.ham

Presenting the new King and Queen of EH6 DJs @yourearsaremouthstoo and @phil_mcbride_music !

Too many people to thank, and apologies if I miss anyone.

To @rob_ralston and @ravelstonbeats for jumping on first, you guys smashed it. Unfortunately Nikki and Phil pipped them to the first round victory taking them to the finals.

To @seaurch1n and @m.illux for battling on when faced with a corrupted USB. We tried to get it working in time but they persevered with what they had on them and brought some truly chaotic energy to this silly event.

To @lietzsche and @daiz.y for an epic first round set that took them to the final against Nikki and Phil.

They both returned to the stage and gave it their all but in the end, Nikki and Phil delivered too many knockout blows.

To @olsmiddy for bossing it in the quiz hosting department, we should do that collab again, that was so much fun.

To all the staff at @bowlersrest for being excellent as always, love you guys.

To @marysmilkbar @weightogoedinburgh @hermanbrownvintage @egyptian.hash for donating prizes for the quiz and the dj competition.

To the quizzers, the dancers, the friends, to everyone who came down, who donated and had a laugh. To anyone who lended equipment for the event, to people who helped set up, and drive me about.

Together we all helped raise (including online donations) £453.30 for @edinburghnefoodbank !

If you didn’t get a chance to donate on the night you can still donate on their website. Alternatively you can always donate food directly, or at big Tesco on duke street, Asda in Newhaven or Lidl Easter Road.

Let’s have another party in November. I need 6 months off to recover.

Pub Quiz Details!

Before the DJ battle begins tomorrow, there will be a quiz by our favourite quiz master @olsmiddy. Dan’s been cooking up something special for this one so come down, get a pie from the bar, and lock in.

Teams of Max 4 people. The room in the back is quite small so I reckon there is room for 7/8 teams. 5 tables already reserved so DM quickly to reserve.

There will be prizes!

After the quiz is done, we will clear the area to make room for our DJs to compete for the title. So if you don’t manage to get a table for the quiz come down, play some pool, hang out in the main bar, have a pie, have a beer.

Just a reminder, that there is a recommended donation of £10 cash for @edinburghnefoodbank by @a.slice_of.ham

🤾🏻‍♀️ Our final set of contestants are not to be messed with 🤺

Like the twins from the shining, but with scarier selections - welcome @lietzsche and @daiz.y ! While others might reach for the higher BPMs, these two are known to pitch things way down, and go the distance, to try and chug their way to victory 🏃‍♂️.

Host of Bookends on EHFM, daiz.y’s musical stylings are all things krauty and chuggy, often featuring gems from Germany and Japan

Lietzsche brings blends of leftfield club cuts, twisted rhythms, dark squelching disco and euphoric energy, channelling her adventurous radio sensibilities straight to the dancefloor. Expect sharp selections and unexpected turns. by @a.slice_of.ham

👿 Double Trouble 😈

If anything sums up how silly this event will be is the teaming up of @rob_ralston and @ravelstonbeats to compete as one unit to take on their opponents.

Some argue that they’ve never been seen in the same room before, only one way to find out if that’s true, so get along this Saturday to @bowlersrest, okay?!

A former ‘up and comer’ in scotland’s regional drum and bass scene, Rob has since cemented his reputation as _at least_ the fifth best DJ among faculty members at his university. Specialising in soul, disco, and boogie, he plays at Soul Jam and was formerly a resident at Soulsville.

Ravelston’s been putting on club nights for over half his life, and making music for longer still. He’s got a string of releases for Paradise Palms under his belt and an ever growing list of remixes for Edinburgh legends and beyond. Whether holding down the Tuesday Morning slot on EHFM, working up a dancefloor, or performing live, he’s always riding the line between atmospheric exploration and party heat. by @a.slice_of.ham

They’ve not played together before but their musical tastebuds and fast-thinking will make for an unmissable set. Introducing @seaurch1n and @m.illux !

Hailing from the highlands sea urchin blends her love for the hyperpop girlies, big sounds and all things upbeat to make you sweat and shake some ass. Breaks, ballroom, bounce, bleeps and bloops - she plays it all! as long as it gets the people dancing! ✨

Millux’s favourite kitchen utensil is their trusty spatula. The two are inseparable! Without it, Millux would be like a book without a page, a ship without a sail, a DJ without their only USB… Thank god these hypotheticals will never come to pass. by @a.slice_of.ham

Introducing our first team of DJs ahead of this Saturday’s event at @bowlersrest - @yourearsaremouthstoo and @phil_mcbride_music !

These guys have been playing together for years in the band Digital Jones, but do they have what it takes to bring home the title this weekend?! 🏆

Here’s what they have to say for themselves:

Edinburgh stalwart Nikki Kent is a DJ with over twelve years of experience. Booked-and-blessed, with a genre-defying library of eclectic musical selections, Nikki has a well earned reputation for energetic mixing, and a real hand for party starting sounds - the melters, the belters and the big ol’ heart felters ;)

Prince Phil is an Edinburgh based producer and DJ with a love of all things disco, drum’n’bass, broken beat and electro. When not recording local artists in his Leith based studio he produces leftfield electronia under the alias Midi Paul. by @a.slice_of.ham

Next Saturday our teams of DJs will compete to decide who is the ultimate DJ.

The format is just like your favourite show from the 90s/00s - the teams are presented with a usb stick / bag of records with no idea what’s in there. They will have 30 mins to cook up a set for the audience who will vote who advances in the competition.

Quiz at 6pm, DJs from 8pm.

Get down early if you want a space for the quiz, teams of 4 maximum, prizes to be won.

£10 recommended donation for the Edinburgh NE food bank (or more if you wish) on entry by @a.slice_of.ham

After music, I would say that graphic design is our passion.

In a world full of AI slop, we need your help to make Slice of Ham 2 as great as it can possibly be.

On 9th May, at @bowlersrest teams of DJs will compete for title of best DJ (in EH6…), while raising money for @edinburghnefoodbank.

The twist is they don’t know what they’re playing. That’s where you come in, send or suggest tracks to the following email. All genres welcome, but remember it’s still the back room of a pub on a Saturday night, and that everyone wants to dance to great music. Plus, we want it to be fun for all of our amazing DJs, who can probably mix oil and water, but maybe not train sounds and James Last records from the charity shop.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

What a day! We sold out of sandwiches, we raised £1300 for the @thesameerproject and we even got a dance party going in the pub.

Too many thank yous to get through but thanks to all the DJs, to @hcharlottev and Shaun for the raffle ticket sales, @lalalamp__ for smashing out 50 odd sandwiches, @staggsbar and their staff for this hosting and to all of the businesses who donated prizes.

But mainly, thanks to everyone who came, bought raffle tickets, hung out, danced, and came together to make the night one to remember.

We have been invited back so watch this space 👀
