How I take photographs of myself. šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦šŸ‡µšŸ‡
.
As a photographer, it sucks never having cool photos of yourself because you’re always behind the camera. And it’s difficult to explain to other people how you want the photo to be taken of you, especially if you’re as meticulous as I am. So I decided, f*ck it, imma do it myself.
.
Here’s how I take selfies, also known as advanced selfies, creative selfies, super selfies, self portraits.
.
What you need:
A camera
A tripod
.
-First, I visualize the shot I want.
-Then I figure out the exposure settings.
-Then I set my camera to do a 9 shot burst, with 1-3 second delay. The reason I do this, is because you’re probably not going to get it on the first try, so this allows you to get more tries.
-Then I set a 5-10 second timer so that I have enough time to walk or run to my spot.
-Then I set up my camera and tripod so that I get the frame I want.
-Lastly, I set my camera to manual focus and I focus on a spot that I plan to stand or sit at. Tip: zoom in and focus on a rock, or tree or something specific that you can walk directly to, so that you’re not just guessing.
-Click shutter and repeat if necessary.
.
Extra tip:
Sometimes I will pose at my spot and for the second and third shot I move a couple inches away and closer to the camera to make sure at least one of my shots is in focus.
.
Have fun photographing yourself and let me know how it goes in the comments, or if you have any questions leave one in the comments or send me a DM. šŸ¤˜šŸ½

Murals in China Ft. @thehalfdecent
.
Located by the entrance of the new @FYTsupplies factory build site, in rural Mainland China. This piece took 2 days to finish and what you don’t see on camera was how hot it was; it felt like Philippines.
.
On the second day, I was filming in the other factory and thought I’d be able to go back to the hotel before filming Mattias work on the mural. I was wrong. Wearing jeans and a thick t-shirt, I had to buy extra clothes at a local store. My shorts didn’t fit properly, and near the end of the shoot I realized I was wearing them backwards - no wonder something felt off about them šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø.
.
Despite the discomforts, it was an amazing time: chilling around, drinking beers and interacting with the locals while Mattias was soldiering on with the mural. Crowds of people would come and go; I don’t think they’ve ever seen anyone like Mattias before, or any of us for that matter. And maybe they haven’t seen anyone spray painting on a wall like that before either. Everyone seemed to be filled with mesmerization, shock, awe, excitement and wonder.
.
Shoutout to @fytsupplies I’ll never forget the experiences and memories from this trip.

Designing my logo.

While I was in the Philippines, I had an idea for a logo. It was a mountain and a river. The mountain was the 'A' and the river was the 'S'.

I forgot about it for a while, and made a hideous second draft at some point out of a spark idea, but that hideous draft was really important to how I ended up developing the final concept.

Almost 3 years after the 1st concept, I finally put the missing pieces together. Another spark idea brought me to how it looks today. Sometimes these things are quick like opening a bag of chips, and sometimes you gotta let things marinate for a while.

I’m releasing my first ever photo prints.

Here’s a peak of some recent test prints for my Philippines print set.

Most of these photos are from my hometown in Bulacan and a couple are from Davao, taken when I was still stranded in the Philippines during COVID Times.

It’s been a long time coming, but we’re almost here. This first drop will be limited edition, ā€œSZN 1ā€. I’m printing 12 per photo/size; they’ll come in a couple sizes. I’ll have some B&W prints as well.

More details coming soon… taken in Philippines by @a12t

Growing up I saw slow shutter photos all the time. You could see them in magazines and newspapers; didn’t really think much of it-it was cool tho. Didn’t know how technical it was.

When I took film photography in high school, I learned how to take photos like that, and why it did that. Pretty fascinating. My teacher would call photography ā€œpainting with lightā€, and when you use slow shutter to take cars at night, it literally looks like you’re painting with light.

The cool thing about using this technique is finding the sweet spot. If it’s too fast, the cars just look kind of blurry, if it’s too slow then you don’t even see the cars anymore and all you see are light trails. Somewhere in the middle, you can achieve both things.

I don’t take as many slow shutter shots as I probably should, but every now and then it’s appropriate. The rush of cars leaving NYC through the Brooklyn Bridge seems pretty appropriate to convey the hustle and bustle of the big city. The colours of the headlights make it look like all the energy of the city is escaping.

I took this shot around 2016, it’s gone through many different edits over the years, this one is easily my favourite. I’ll be selling my photo prints for the first time ever and this shot will be one of them. Available in colour and Heather Grey. Stay Tuned. taken in Brooklyn Bridge by @a12t

Go @nyknicks !

Here’s a photo from a trip to New York many years ago at a very popular photo spot in Dumbo Brooklyn.

After the NBA Finals game 1 win last night I thought this would be appropriate. I don’t really follow sports that much anymore but come finals I’ll see what’s going on.

The way I decide which team to root for is based on these criteria, in order:
A Toronto team?
A Canadian team?
One of my favourite players on a team?
The more exciting team to watch?
Jalen Brunson is damn exciting to watch! Knicks in 6!

North Vancouver.

Taken at a parking lot near Waterfront station. This is a photo of North Van shining under the fleeting sunlight peeking through the clouds, while my camera lens peeks between the bars of a metal fence.

Editing notes:
The raw image of this is much more brighter and bluer than the final edit. If you’ve never tried: You’d be amazed what your photos would look like if you play around with the exposure and the white balance. This also applies to phone photography, especially the exposure.

What’s your favourite song off the new Drake Alhums?

I started listening to iceman and couldn’t get through it. But somebody told me the other albums have a different vibe some I’m optimistic.

Lately..

Been in Vancouver for over a year now. Finally replaced my broken Nikon d600 with a d610 and been tweaking my photoshop preset, it’s a WIP.
