Kaws
.
This photo set was inspired by my curiosity and fascination for painting:
.
As a youngster, my first artistic love was illustration. Markers, crayons, pastels, and especially pencils were my weapons of choice, but never really dabbled in paint. Fast forward to today, I still haven’t dabbled, but my weapons are different.
.
5+ years ago, I was fascinated by minimal landscape paintings - the grass would be a solid green, with no details, no gradients, the sky would be a solid blue, and so on - complex enough so that you know that it’s a landscape but simplified to its most basic form, and all the lines were really crisp. Those paintings kind of remind me of those colour-by-numbers templates we’d do in elementary, because of the way that each number had a set space for only 1 colour. I kind of wanted to start painting.. I didn’t lol.
.
Around that time, I watched a youtube video featuring @kaws .I realized that I’ve seen his work before but never really took it in. The video featured some of his big paint pieces; The style reminded me of those minimal landscape pieces that I loved - but this was different, KAWS painted characters and graphics, and the execution was really similar, the lines were really crisp. It kind of opened my eyes and helped me remember that art doesn’t have to be a, b or c, it can also be 1, 2 or 3, and so on.
.
FF>> to last week: my idea was to take macro photographs of KAWS’s paintings, to show those crispy lines that I admired. I wanted to accomplish 2 things: 1) showcase KAWS’s attention to detail and steady hand, and 2) more importantly, I know that great things can appear marvellous from afar, but up close filled with flaws (I’m not just talking about art & I’m also not trying to throw shade at KAWS, at all). If I can show these flaws (if any) maybe that can inspire some artist to accept their own flaws, or accept my own flaws. After all, every masterpiece is just a thousand imperfect lines and dots.

Everybody wants to be seen and feel valued.
It's an innate desire of all human beings.
But here's the irony...
Most people seek this acceptance by working extremely hard to fit in and be like everybody else.
Then they can't understand why they never stand out or get ahead in life.
What these people fail to realize is that in order to truly be valued...
You have to be different.
What's unique about you?
What's your style of doing things?
What can you bring to the table?
Start asking yourself these questions and using these skills to your advantage.
Separating yourself from the pack is the only way you'll ever be seen.

3 design terms Photographers should know!

1)
White Space (aka. Negative space):
The empty space between elements in the photo.

The empty, even space surrounding the plane allow the viewer to spot the plane with ease.

2)
Colour Harmony:
Aesthetically pleasing colour combinations that give your photo a certain look or feel.

The colours in this photo give a gloomy feel, and brings attention to the focal point - the ship.

3)
Hierarchy:
The arrangement of elements in the photo to show their order of importance.

The framing of this photo uses white space, and complimentary colour harmonies to create a path 👀 that starts from the man, to the mountain, then to the sky.

.

Why are these important?
A: because using these techniques help your viewer see what you want them to see with as little friction as possible and this can be applied to most types of photographs and designs.
