I am so excited to announce the release of my second piece of published work, Use Your Words, an anthology I have been curating for the last year. When I was writing The Legal Ties That Bind Us, it took such a toll on me mentally that I never imagined there to be a second novel, at least not in the near future. Samira’s story was so true and close to my heart that I could not imagine replicating it ever again. Use Your Words proved me wrong. This anthology is a collection of my work from the last 14 months of my life. It is poetry, it is prose, it is essays that show my anger at the world we live in. And most of all, it is mine, but not only mine. When I first read Nisha’s writing, I had no idea it was hers. It was a video that came up on my for you page, a few sentences that were so profound I fell in love with her work before even knowing the author behind it. Without Nisha, this book would not be possible. Her work shines through the pages. Her words were meant to be on these pages. Use Your Words is centred around the phrase, “See women of colour, Hear women of colour, Read women of colour.” The work varies, but at the end of it, it all comes back to Nisha and I’s shared experience of being women of colour. How that has shaped us, made our lives so similar yet so parallel at the same time. I am so excited to share these works with you. I hope the poetry I have written resonates, the prose makes you smile, and the essays & short story make you rethink. Thank you to my dear friend, @zahramizutani for albeit unknowingly illustrating the cover of this book. You are so talented, so kind, so driven, and I love you so much. So so so much thanks to our amazing photographer, @emirakumar !! Such a talented and brilliant photographer, and even more brilliant woman. Use Your Words, by Angel Ahuja & Nisha Bellevue, now available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. All my love, Angel by @a1506245

Today, I have the pleasure of announcing that my self-published debut novel is going to hit the shelves at Indigo, Canada’s biggest bookstore chain. The Legal Ties That Bind Us started off as one chapter. 600 words. Written solely to prove a point to myself—that I could still write. I hadn’t written in years. My memories of elementary school are flooded with short stories, poems, elaborate fantasy universes that I imagined while my parents had my iPad hidden somewhere. There were bad drawings, plot holes, and awfully one-sided characters. But it was art nonetheless. And moreover, it was my art. But this book is so much more than my own feelings, or my own effort. It is a reflection of the feelings of the people around me. People I love show up in this novel through small interactions. Their physical features on a characters face, their passions in another characters heart. Friendship given immortality through the friendship I wrote between Samira and Suhani, the kind of intimacy and unwavering love you only come across once or twice. Thank you for loving my debut novel. Thank you for allowing it to flourish. Thank you for supporting the dream I have held close to my heart since I realized how beautiful it was to create. Thank you to those who love me. None of this would be possible without you. Today, I close the chapter on The Legal Ties That Bind Us. I will always hold these characters, their hardships, their triumphs, close to my heart. But the story isn’t mine to tell anymore. Thank you. 💗 by @a1506245
