Our 3-day deathcare 101 workshop returns in 2027

A three part course offering introductory training in the physical, practical, and emotional care of the living, the dying, and the dead.

January 22nd, 23rd, and 24th
Friday 5pm-9pm
Saturday 10am-3pm
Sunday 10am-3pm

This in-person workshop includes introductory discussions surrounding the culture and history of deathcare in the United States, highlighting themes of choice, access, oppression, and liberation.

Together we will ask questions and introduce common themes in nonmedical, medical, and legal components of end-of-life and death care.

Topics and Themes:

• Learn Common Deathcare Terminology
• Introduce Death Companionship and Models of Care
• Introduce Grief and Grieving
• Introduce Consent in Deathcare
• Learn to Research Values-Informed Options for Deathcare
• Practice Dialog and Relationship Building

Using the anthology Poetry as Spellcasting: Poems, Essays, and Prompts for Manifesting Liberation and Reclaiming Power, we will create and dream poem-rituals and spells together as freedom maps for ourselves and our communities.

Grief and Care Under Capitalism returns!

Wednesday, October 7th from 7-9pm Pacific on Zoom (and again on the third Wednesday of the month, on October 21st)

Feeling exploited and exhausted by capitalism?

We are in a constant state of collective grief. Come talk about it or just be with other humans who get it for a couple hours

Grief doesn't occur only when someone dies

Struggling under the weight of racial capitalism, transphobia, ableism, and other forms of violence and oppression that we navigate daily takes a toll on us that we are often not consciously aware of. When people feel inexplicably sad, burnt out, or tired as hell, "you need better self-care" is the response that is too often thrown back at us. We can work as hard as possible to care of ourselves, but there are limits to healing when we are inundated with trauma that we cannot control

Starting this month, a one time registration for this group is necessary to receive the new Zoom link

Our next monthly Medical Aid in Dying Grief Support Group will be -
Sunday, October 4th, 7-8:30pm PST (4:00pm-5:30pm HST & 10:00pm-11:30pm EST).

MAID Grief Groups meet via Zoom and offer a supportive space for the friends, family, partners and beloveds of people who have chosen the MAID process.

Taking place on the first Sunday of each month, this is a free of cost, drop in group where loved ones can come together in conversation.

This is not a space for medical providers nor employed caretakers.

There is something about this place. Living entities that need a little help, find us. People and animals, well we’re all animals but I’ll keep the separation for this post. needing help as they die, needing help while they live, needing help to fill their bellies, paying for cremation, getting something notarized… help finding a space to grieve, help finding a space to learn…

We work hard to stay open, and available to meet the needs of individuals and communities and do not hold the trust they all give lightly.

These birds have brought a message of just keep going- not quite as catchy as the @thebengsons keep going song, and still just the right ear worm for the times. taken in A Sacred Passing by @a_sacred_passing
