We’re excited to welcome Jackson Heights’ first-ever community center to the neighborhood! Yesterday, we joined Councilmember @cmshekar25, Governor @govkathyhochul, Speaker @speakermenin, Representative, @repgracemeng, Queens Borough President @queensbprichards, and Assemblymembers @votejgr, @ragaforqueens, and catalinacruzny for the announcement of this historic investment in the neighborhood.

Jackson Heights is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city (if not the world!) and is full of cultural richness—yet it has the least amount of green space per resident in New York City. This community center—with a pool, gym, theater, and more—will give neighbors a place to connect and families the resources to thrive. We can’t wait for what this center will have in store for Jackson Heights! Last week, AAF Director of Programs Ahyoung Kim shared testimony during the People’s Hearing on Immigration Enforcement, anchored by @hispanic_federation about how Asian immigrant small business owners and Asian communities have been impacted by ICE enforcement in New York.

Ahyoung’s and many other community members’ testimonies helps document how federal immigration enforcement is affecting New Yorkers and contributes to a broader public record of these experiences. We were deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute what we’ve heard on the ground from Asian New Yorkers and to listen to the stories of many other communities. Together, this record can help inform advocacy, strengthen accountability, and advance the fight for justice and civil rights. by @aafederation

Yesterday afternoon, an ICE agent shot a New Yorker in our streets. Agents tried to arrest a man in his car, shooting at him seven times while his child sat in the backseat. This violence is unacceptable but it is not new. It is part of a broader landscape of discrimination, harassment, and terror against immigrant communities and communities of color.

We join our city and state leaders in demanding accountability and answers now. On Thursday afternoon around 4:00 PM, ICE agents shot a man in front of his five-year-old child and neighbors in Marble Hill, the Bronx.

The violence comes at a time when ICE has been rapidly escalating enforcement in our city, tearing Black, Latino and Asian immigrant families apart and spreading terror across our communities. No one should have to fear for their life in their own neighborhood because of federal immigration enforcement.

As New Yorkers, we are outraged at the reckless disregard for the safety of our communities shown by federal officers. We join our city and state leaders in demanding accountability and answers. We need a thorough, independent investigation, and we need it now.

The Trump administration has proposed a rule that would exclude immigrants from the 2030 census and that would stop collecting data about race and ethnicity. Yesterday, AAF joined @speakermenin and @newyorkstateag as part of @nyccouncil’s Census Taskforce to oppose these changes that will harm Asian and immigrant communities.

The 2030 census must count everyone! Go to the link in our bio to submit a comment before October 13, 2026.

The Constitution requires a full headcount of every single person living in each state every ten years — no matter what their immigration status. An accurate count determines not only political representation, like how many seats each state gets in the House of Representatives or how electoral districts are drawn, but also how much funding communities get for services like schools, hospitals, roads, and much more. These services impact everyone, citizen and noncitizen alike.

Race and ethnicity data is also especially important for Asian Americans, who are the fastest growing racial group in the country, as well as one of its most diverse. Census data helps us identify which specific Asian ethnic groups are growing, what particular challenges they face, and where funding should go for support.

Today AAF joined @speakermenin, @newyorkstateag, @cm_encarnacion, @solagesny, and many other advocates and elected officials to speak out against threats to the 2030 Census. The Census must count everyone, no matter their immigration status, because an accurate count determines funding for schools, hospitals, roads, and critical services that everyone depends on.

As the only Census Information Center in the Northeast that serves Asian communities, AAF is proud to be part of @nyccouncil’s Census Taskforce and committed to ensuring that our communities are counted and no one is left out in the next Census. On September 15, 2026, thousands of immigrants disappeared from ICE’s online detainee locator. These were immigrants with final orders of removal who were at risk of being deported, and neither their families nor their lawyers knew where they were or what had happened to them.

While this change does not apply to people being held at temporary holding facilities in New York City, this sets a deeply troubling precedent where immigrants can simply vanish from the system, leaving families confused and scared and lawyers without any chance to advocate for their clients.
