What is AAPI Empower Hour?

It’s a quarterly networking event where professionals and community-based organizations come together to connect, collaborate, and build a stronger AAPI community.

We started with one simple idea: people want to give back but don’t always know where to start. Empower Hour bridges that gap connecting professionals with nonprofits looking for volunteers and board members who can make an impact.

✨ Join us for our next event on Nov 13 at Mr. Mahjong’s in San Francisco.

Glad I could stop by AAPI Empower Hour tonight and celebrate two years of building connections and bringing our community together. Congratulations to @aapiempowerhour and @christinawongsingh, and thank you for all you’ve done to create this space and keep it growing.

I also finally caught up with @dionlimtv and made sure to get a signed copy of Amplify for my wife LeeAnn!

A great evening of community, conversation, and connection.

You don’t need deep pockets to make a difference for a nonprofit.

In our final clip with Julia Quon, founder of Save Cantonese (CCSF), she names the small things that add up: telling an org their website has a few typos, offering your services at a sliding scale, or lending strategic guidance to help them grow.

The point? You already have something worth giving.

That’s exactly what AAPI Empower Hour is for — bringing you into the room with the organizations doing the work, and helping you find your way in.

We asked our community why they keep coming back to AAPI Empower Hour — and they answered. 🎥

And we have news: @dionlimtv joins our 2-year anniversary as a special guest — journalist, author of Amplify!: My Fight for Asian America, and a spokesperson for Asian American Voices, a @taaforg initiative supporting grassroots AAPI nonprofits.

“As a nurse, I saw every day how language was a barrier to safe, equitable care.”

Julia Quon, founder of Save Cantonese (CCSF), started in community advocacy watching how language kept her own family and her patients from the care they needed.

Her fight is for Cantonese. Her point is bigger: language access is safety.

Two years. Seven events. 400+ people connected to the grassroots organizations doing the work in our community.

On August 13, AAPI Empower Hour turns two — and you’re invited.

Come spend the evening with the people building something real: meet the organizations, find where you fit, and see why so many keep coming back. This year we’re spotlighting Save Cantonese, at Victory Hall — a Filipino woman-owned space in SF.

“When language fades, we don’t just lose words — we lose stories, history, and relationships that can’t be fully translated.”

Ahead of our 2-year anniversary, we sat down with Julia Quon, founder of Save Cantonese (CCSF). Over the next couple of weeks, we’re sharing pieces of that conversation.

First: what really disappears when a language slips away — and the quiet distance it leaves inside families.

This quarter, our spotlight is Save Cantonese — an international movement that sustains and celebrates Cantonese language and culture.

Cantonese carries generations of story, family, and identity. Save Cantonese protects the local language programs that teach it, strengthens ties across the global Cantonese diaspora, and works to make sure present and future generations grow up in a thriving, living community.

That’s exactly the kind of grassroots work AAPI Empower Hour exists to spotlight. Every quarter, we bring Bay Area professionals into the room with AAPI nonprofits — to learn, and to find real ways in as volunteers and board members.

On August 13, Save Cantonese has the floor. It’s also a milestone for us: 2 years of doing this work.

📍 Victory Hall & Parlor, SF — Filipino woman-owned
🗓️ Thursday, August 13 — 5:30 to 7:30PM
🎟️ RSVP at the link in our bio

Come meet the movement and find your way in.

The world feels heavy right now. Job loss. Uncertainty. A lot of unknowns.

I’ve been there. In 2020 I lost my mom, I was unemployed, and we were sheltering at home with two little kids during a pandemic.

It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to be insular. But when you’re ready, reach out. Find your people.

That one action changed everything for me.

Who is your community? 🤍

Last night we attended an event celebrating Dion Lim and her powerful new book — Amplify! My Fight for Asian America. 📚✨

This book is everything our community needs right now. Dion shares stories of the political and social controversies facing the AAPI community — from fighting discrimination during COVID to demanding representation that too many of us have been denied for too long.

Dion represents so many of us who worked hard, climbed the corporate ladder, and somewhere along the way were made to feel like we had to stay quiet. Her message is clear: we can no longer be silenced. Our stories will not be erased. 💪

Thank you, Dion, for your courage, your authenticity, and for fighting for Asian American visibility so fiercely. This book is a gift to our community.

Amplify! My Fight for Asian America drops May 15th — go out and get your copy! 🛒
