Glad I could stop by AAPI Empower Hour tonight and celebrate two years of building connections and bringing our community together. Congratulations to @aapiempowerhour and @christinawongsingh, and thank you for all you’ve done to create this space and keep it growing.

I also finally caught up with @dionlimtv and made sure to get a signed copy of Amplify for my wife LeeAnn!

A great evening of community, conversation, and connection.

The world feels heavy right now. Job loss. Uncertainty. A lot of unknowns.

I’ve been there. In 2020 I lost my mom, I was unemployed, and we were sheltering at home with two little kids during a pandemic.

It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to be insular. But when you’re ready, reach out. Find your people.

That one action changed everything for me.

Who is your community? 🤍

I’m intentional about where I spend my time. The rooms I choose to be in, the boards I sit on, the events I show up for — they reflect what I believe in.

Early childhood education is one of those areas.

Last week I moderated a panel “A Conversation on Equity and Access for San Francisco’s Youngest Children” for Wu Yee Children’s Services. Education has always been personal to me — I come from a family of educators who believed in the power of paying it forward. So conversations about equity in early learning hit close to home.

What I walked away with: investment alone isn’t enough. Closing the kindergarten readiness gap requires programs built around the cultures, languages, and lived experiences of the families they serve. Families at the center. Systems designed for them — not the other way around.

This is the kind of work AAPI Empower Hour exists to uplift. It’s not just about board matching — it’s about mission alignment. Showing up for what you genuinely believe in.

Be intentional about where you spend your time. Quality over quantity. 🙏🏼

Last night, Wu Yee Children's Services gathered community members at Bluestream Bar and Gallery for 'A Conversation on Equity and Access for San Francisco’s Youngest Children'—an evening of reflection, dialogue, and connection.

Throughout the night, our panel explored what it means to close the kindergarten readiness gap and tackle racial disparities, center families in systems of care, and move beyond investment toward intentional, data-informed action. The conversation highlighted both the progress being made and the work still necessary to ensure every child and family in San Francisco has equitable access to opportunity.

Thank you to our panelists and those who joined us for this special evening rooted in community, shared learning, and a collective commitment to equity for all children in San Francisco.

It might be 80 degrees out here in the Bay Area but we’re drooling over this episode’s dish, oxtail beef stew with @christinawongsingh, founder of @aapiempowerhour. On this episode we talk with Christina about her childhood disdain turned adult love of this arguably American Chinese dish.

We go hard on junior high school with New York City public school lunches, Jamaican beef patties, and math talents. Freesia can barely wrap her head around growing up in New York while Sam and Christina are incredibly nonchalant about it.

Plus, raising mixed Asian kids–as in, two Asian ethnicities–men who cook, and keeping culture and language alive through a generation or two of assimilation.

Billy’s story isn’t about aesthetics. It’s about getting his life back: the things sometimes easily overlooked.

Billy was a football player + a wrestler who competed at championship levels--and he carried years of wear and tear on his body. Some injuries were overlooked because coaches pushed him too hard & ignored symptoms. Later, repetitive motion strain from an assembly line job compounded the damage into severe issues: spinal stenosis, sciatica, foot drop, and cauda equina–like symptoms. There were seasons of his life where pain was constant, hope felt fragile, & “normal movement” started to sound like a fantasy.

When basic things become painful--walking or standing without pain, going to grab food, not needing to rely on others for the simplest of tasks--it hits a level that’s hard to put into words.

That’s why Billy’s testimonial matters. Because after personal training, SoftWave, and now massage therapy with us, his experience reflects what we stand for: meeting people where they’re at with empathy and expertise. ✔️

We don’t say “whole-person care” as a slogan. We built the ecosystem for it:

Licensed chiropractors
Licensed massage therapists
Licensed estheticians
Certified personal trainers with national credentials through NASM, ISSA, ACE, and other top certifying bodies.
Even our content and blogs is written & produced by a person certified through the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.

That’s why we lead with empathy--because our team is trained, accredited, & deeply committed to helping people move forward safely. 🌱

This isn’t about vanity. It’s about longevity. It’s about reducing the years you spend in pain. It’s about protecting your body, building resiliency, and reclaiming the ability to do what you love--inside and outside the gym.

Because sometimes fitness isn’t about progress.

It’s about getting a piece of your life back.

Billy shares how our wellness services at Live Fit Spa helped him reconnect to his mental & emotional wellness. He was an athlete--football & wrestler--which impacted his body. Billy was working assembly line at an EV company, and the repetitive motion strain compounded negative effects to his body. It led to spinal stenosis, back pain, sciatica, & cauda equina like symptoms. Some days he couldn't get out of bed. Most of the days, he lost hope.

Not mentioned in other establishments, is how the mind/body connection is deeply affected. When the body goes from baseline to chronic pain, limited range of motion, limited mobility--the mind may begin to feel compressed, contained, suppressed, trapped. An inability to express itself through movement. This is what Billy shares: he lost hope.

Our Certified Personal Trainers have guided him on proper exercise and movement catered to his body. Our Wellness facilitators: from our Licensed Chiropractors, Licensed Massage Therapists, Licensed Estheticians--all played a role in helping him feel empowered.

More importantly, just like we met Billy, we meet you EXACTLY where you're at: with empathy & expertise. No matter what you journey of fitness or wellness looks like. Your journey of movement. Wherever you are going, whatever you want to do: we stand to ensure you feel hope, possibility, and acquisition of your highest potential.
