I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that:

1. Financial Literacy
“…I didn’t grow up financially literate. Coming here, I was suddenly dealing with insurance, credit scores, and retirement plans—and honestly, it was overwhelming. At first I felt embarrassed not knowing these things, but I’ve realized it’s never too late to learn. What once was confusion is now a journey to financial growth and independence.”

2. Driving Anxiety
“…I avoided driving for years because I was comfortable with public transport—and truth be told, I even almost caused an accident once back home in the Philippines. But moving to America forced me to learn.“

3. Missing the UK
“…I still miss my life in the UK. Life was simpler, family was closer, and I could hop on a plane to Europe so easily. I felt embarrassed to admit I missed it so much when I had prayed for this opportunity in the US. But I’ve learned—it’s okay to hold gratitude for where you are, and still grieve the life you left behind.”

4. Comparing Myself
“…I sometimes catch myself keeping up with the Joneses. I compare myself to people my age who seem more successful, and it makes me anxious about my future. It’s embarrassing to admit—but that comparison has pushed me to redefine success on my own terms. Slowly, I’m learning that life isn’t a race—it’s a journey.”

5. Career Uncertainty
“…I love nursing so much and I’m thankful for it—but I don’t know if it’s where I’ll be for the rest of my life. For a while, I felt embarrassed about not having it all figured out. But I’ve realized—it’s okay to grow, to change, to explore. Nursing gave me a foundation, but it doesn’t have to be my only path.”

6. Life Balance
“…I still struggle to balance everything—my job, content creation, spirituality, fitness, even relationships. Sometimes it feels like I’m juggling way too much. But lately I’ve started to see it as proof that I’m human. Growth means giving yourself grace in the areas you’re still figuring out.”

What are you most embarrassed of as a nurse/immigrant? How are you dealing with it?

I’m still trying to process this.
Who would’ve thought…

A new nurse immigrant from the Philippines
would one day be on television next to Hollywood celebrities I will probably only ever seen on screen!
It was such a pleasure doing this.

Getting to work with the team behind The Pitt and Warner Bros. was something I never even imagined for myself.

And in a strange way…
I kind of owe part of this opportunity to something I’ve been dealing with behind the scenes— chronic migraines.

Working night shift for almost a year now has definitely been a challenge, and chronic migraines have been part of that.

It’s defined as a neurological disease with fifteen or more headache days a month, each lasting four hours or more, over at least three months.

So you’re going through something similar, it might be worth talking to a headache specialist and finding a plan that works for you. Link in my bio or head to www.treatchronicmigraine.com

Life definitely has a funny way of turning challenges into something meaningful.
When life throws illness and challenges at me, I always come back to this: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” - Genesis 50:20

There is always good that comes out from your struggles!

So if you want to see the full ad, you can catch it on The Pitt on the Basic plan of HBO Max. And to be honest, I’m very excited for season 3!

If you’ve already seen the ad, I want your honest opinion - did I do okay? And more importantly should they cast me on the next seasons? loljk 😅

8 years ago, I vaguely remember being in my third year of nursing school, around my birthday, desperately trying to complete my operating room cases so I could graduate.

That same time, my entire family went on a trip to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday. I was the only one who couldn’t go.

When I started working as a nurse, I quickly realized that this profession meant missing birthdays, holidays, and family gatherings. Christmas was probably the hardest one for me.

Then came my dream of moving abroad.

For almost two years, it felt like my entire life revolved around paperwork, exams, immigration requirements, and waiting.

There were times when I wondered if I was even enjoying my twenties because I was so focused on building a future I wasn’t even sure would happen.

And when I finally moved abroad, I had to start all over again.
Looking back, there were so many sacrifices I didn’t fully appreciate at the time.

But I also recognize how much those experiences shaped me.
Which brings me to one of my favorite Bible verses, Romans 5:3–5.

Suffering produces perseverance. Perseverance produces character. And character produces hope.

I still have so much to learn, but I hope my journey reminds you that the sacrifices you’re making today might be preparing you for the life you’ve been praying for.

And if becoming a USRN is part of that dream, I want to help you get there.

Comment “MADEIT” and I’ll send you my FREE USRN Roadmap to help you understand the process of becoming a nurse in America.

Had the pleasure of attending Nurse John’s Against Medical Advice Tour in West Palm Beach, Florida!

After six weeks of picking up overtime shifts at the hospital, I honestly needed a night like this. Nothing beats being in a room full of nurses laughing about the same things that stress us out at work.

Unfortunately, I missed the meet and greet because your boy was running late. But the show was absolutely worth it!

If you’re a nurse who’s stressed, overcaffeinated, and desperately needs a break from work, go see Nurse John live!

🎟️ Get your tickets at nursejohnnshows.com and PLEASE don’t be like me. Show up on time. 😭

Imagine how unstoppable you could be with that nursing degree if you finally took the NCLEX. 🇵🇭🇺🇸

8 years ago, I was just a new graduate nurse from the Philippines, wondering how far this profession could take me.

I never imagined I’d get to work as a nurse in the UK and eventually the US.

And to think it all started with the same nursing degree you might already have.

There are so many opportunities waiting for internationally educated nurses. But at some point, you have to stop wondering what life abroad could look like and actually start preparing for it.

Take that NCLEX. Gain experience. Start your USRN journey.

You don’t need to have everything figured out today. You just need to take the next step.

If becoming a nurse in America is one of your dreams, comment “MADEIT” and I’ll send you my FREE USRN Roadmap to help you get started.

Visa retrogression doesn’t mean America has stopped needing nurses. 🇺🇸

After attending TravCon, one thing became even clearer to me: the demand for nurses isn’t going away anytime soon.

American nurses have more career options than ever, from travel nursing to PRN and non-bedside roles. Meanwhile, hospitals still need nurses who want to establish themselves and build long-term careers.

And that’s where I believe internationally educated nurses will continue to have opportunities.

Yes, immigration policies change. Visa backlogs are frustrating, and the USRN process can take years.

But don’t confuse immigration delays with a lack of demand for nurses.

If becoming a USRN is your goal, use this waiting period to prepare.

Take your NCLEX. Gain experience. Get your documents ready.

Your future self will thank you.

8 years into nursing and we’re thriving 🇵🇭🇬🇧🇺🇸

I made it, but certainly not on my own. I had people who believed in me, challenged me, and pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of.

I made it even though I broke my arm on the very same day I received my nursing license. (True story)

I made it despite starting with very little money.

I made it despite the setbacks, uncertainties, and moments when I questioned whether all the sacrifices would be worth it.

And by the grace of God, here we are.

I still have so much I want to accomplish, but looking back at how far I’ve come reminds me that the dreams I once thought were impossible eventually became my reality.

Where you start doesn’t have to determine how far you’ll go.

If I made it, so can you.

And if you’re an internationally educated nurse dreaming of becoming a USRN, I want to help you find your way, too.

Comment “MADEIT” and I’ll send you my FREE USRN Roadmap to help you understand the steps toward becoming a registered nurse in America. 🇺🇸

Just because work gets busy doesn’t mean your badge reel has to be boring! 🇵🇭✨

In honor of Filipino American History Month, I’m happy to support a small business creating adorable badge reels with a Filipino twist @shiftsandcrafts

And honestly, you don’t have to be Filipino to appreciate how cute these designs are. 🥹

Show them some love, check out their designs, and give them a follow!

If I could talk to myself when I was still a nursing student in the Philippines, these are the 10 things I would tell him to do:

1️⃣ Graduate + get licensed.
Finish nursing school and become a licensed nurse in your home country.

2️⃣ Start working.
Build your bedside skills. ICU, ER, Med-Surg and other acute-care experience can give you more options abroad.

3️⃣ Organize your documents.
Keep copies of your school records, licenses and employment certificates. Trust me—you’ll need them again.

4️⃣ Start your USRN process EARLY.
My journey took around 4 years. For others, it can take longer. If America is your goal, start early.

5️⃣ Take the NCLEX ASAP.
Study while working if you can. Passing the NCLEX opens more opportunities for international nurses.

6️⃣ Complete your English exam + VisaScreen.
Keep the process moving while gaining experience and earning an income.

7️⃣ Find the RIGHT US employer.
Compare salary, location, benefits, contract length, direct hire vs. staffing, and contract penalties before signing.

8️⃣ Consider working somewhere else while waiting.
I moved to the UK while my US immigration process continued. Your journey doesn’t have to stop while you wait.

9️⃣ Build your career AND your life.
Gain experience. Take leadership opportunities. Save. Travel. Don’t put your entire life on hold waiting to move abroad.

🔟 Don’t make becoming a USRN your final dream.
Once you’re there, keep growing—specialties, travel nursing, leadership, advanced practice, informatics or even something beyond bedside nursing.

If becoming a nurse in the US is part of your plan but you don’t know where to begin, comment “MADEIT” and I’ll send you my USRN Roadmap for International Nurses.
