Stationary Odyssey “Head! Foot! And the Pink Axe”

Twenty years ago (!!), Brett Siler and I gave birth to our first fully collaborative effort. And all these years later, I still feel like it’s one of the strongest records I’ve ever been a part of. It features a number of longtime collaborators including Shawn Knight, Damon Dawson, and my son, Jackson. One somewhat notable detail: it was originally supposed to be mixed by Kramer (Ween, Butthole Surfers), but we ultimately fired him. Oh well. For the design, I wanted to take a more minimalist approach and let Robert Hardgrave’s paintings and Christine Edwards’ photography do the heavy lifting. I still love the end result.

From Joyful Noise Recordings:
On their third effort, Stationary Odyssey curator Aaron Tanner teams up with Brett Siler to produce the band’s most aggressive and guitar-driven album to date. The group has a sound that is extremely difficult to categorize without being overtly bizarre. Godspeed-esque guitar squeals reign throughout some songs, where at other times the music borders on electro-noise-pop; producing a new and strangely listenable blend of noise rock.

“Head! Foot! And the Pink Axe is a compelling listen, and frankly it’s hard to disguise the daring talent behind this album.”

Dyspepsidisc is back! I originally started the label in ’98 as a personal outlet, it eventually grew to include other artists, died twice, and now it’s circling back to its roots with a release or two in the works. And since Melodic Virtue has closed its doors, I gave that catalog a home here as well. Be sure to give it a follow on Bandcamp. All albums are also on streaming services.

It’s also worth noting the logo has been refreshed! Originally based on an experimental font by Ray Larabie (Grand Theft Auto, 2006 Winter Olympics), it’s been completely redrawn from the ground up, addressing a few imperfections and inconsistencies it had since the label’s inception. taken in Evansville, Indiana by @aarontannerdesign

We cannot thank our friend Tim Kerr enough for putting his trust in us to reissue the 1984 debut album by Poison 13. This was a true labor of love for us. Special thanks to the team behind the reissue, including Pat Blashill for the outstanding photography, Aaron Tanner for the fantastic design, Sean Glonek for the new vinyl master, and Scott Hull who cut lacquers. The reissue looks and sounds amazing! Pre-orders have begun at ALR-Music.com and RedParakeetRecords.com

It’s been tough keeping this one a secret, but I’m super excited to finally share that I had the honor of creating new artwork for the reissue of Poison 13’s debut album! Pat Blashill, who contributed some of my favorite shots of the Butthole Surfers to my coffee table book on that band, also provided all the images for this release. They couldn’t have been more perfect. And a special shoutout goes to Shawn Knight for his penmanship.

Big thanks to Joe Spadaro for bringing me on board for this! by @aarontannerdesign

The artwork for Face to Face’s “Live” gets refreshed for the band’s 35th anniversary! The original cover was inspired by Life magazine, but I wanted to take it a step further by matching the publication’s typography, restoring the proportions of the band photo, and giving it a slightly weathered look. Available for pre-order now!

Produced by fellow Indiana native Paul Mahern, the fourth and final album by The Blake Babies gets a refreshed look! Much like my approach with most of Juliana Hatfield’s solo records, I found that simplifying the artwork made a stronger impact. Really love the illustrations on this one!

“Just Because Something Has a Stupid Look on It’s Face Doesn’t Mean That It Isn’t Smart Enough to Ruin Your Day” (2011)

Several years ago, I decided to create a poster series based on overheard conversations. And of the few that ended up getting printed, this was always one of my favorites. It wasn’t a conscious decision when I was making it, but it looks like a spiritual successor to Ween’s “The Mollusk.”
