What a month April was. Filled with highs, but sadly ending with injury and my body filing a formal complaint. It’s not been an easy pill to swallow, but I’m trying to keep moving: focusing on recovery and what I can control 🤙🏽 Continuing training, cycling and swimming as much as my body will tolerate, and of course, eating good food 🍄‍🟫

Inside October - rest, recovery, and a whole lot of wholesomeness 🫶🏽

Still learning to slow down and be okay with it. Can’t wait to be back to 100% and out of concussion mode 💪🏽🧠 by @aaronzavolokin

September, a month of highs and lows that brought with it some big perspective shifts 🫰🏽

The road to Ironman has been anything but linear. I’ve dealt with multiple injuries and setbacks, and to top it off, 4 weeks out from the big day I got hit by a car just two minutes before I was due to finish my training session. It’s extremely frustrating to get so close only for something like this to happen. But I’m also extremely lucky. I’m here, writing this caption, fully appreciative of how this could easily have ended very differently.

In the couple of weeks before the accident, my mindset had already started to shift. I wasn't just getting through training, I was enjoying it. For a long time it had felt like a chore. Some of that came from having no balance with work, but mostly every session felt transactional, done to hit a goal rather than because I enjoyed it. Everything that's happened since has reinforced how important it is not to get so fixated on the end goal that you don’t fully appreciate the journey.

There is so much to appreciate in the journey than can be easily overlooked. A lot of my training was lonely because I didn't know anyone training for the same thing or on the same schedule, but there was plenty happening around it. The progress I made each day, the relationships I built along the way, the discipline I reinforced, the support from people around me, the inspiration I drew from others, and by far the most fulfilling, the inspiration I gave others to pick up a healthy habit, go for a run, do something new, or try something challenging. That last one is is huge for me - I’ve never thought of myself as an inspiring person or sought to be thought of as such, but I’ve always held the belief that if you can have a genuinely positive impact on someone’s life, then that is a life well lived. And to all the people who reached out, visited me, and sent such kind messages over the last couple of weeks, it just highlighted how lucky I am to have such beautiful people in my life 🫶🏽

So here’s to gratitude and appreciating every moment along the way. To quote Miley Cyrus ca. 2003: “The journey is usually the part that you remember anyways.” by @aaronzavolokin

First ever marathon done and dusted 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾
What an incredible day it was at the @sydney_marathon 🏃🏽‍♂️‍➡️ thank you to everyone who came out to cheer, support, and bring good vibes all round, it really makes such a difference - especially for me, because I decided to raw dog the event and endure all the voices in my head 🙂

Beat my target of 3:30, clocking a 3:25:28 (including a bio break). Also managed to finish in the top 10% overall and top 14% of men.

Special mention to my family and friends who came to support and followed along around the course, the girl with the “call me” sign around km 27-28, and the two DJs who perfectly timed blasting Darude’s Sandstorm as I went past.

A few PBs for the books too 🤙🏽
