💫Introducing first year MFA student Ash Bland💫 @aashbland Ash Bland is an artist born and raised in New York that is now living and working in London. Their practice spans performance, sculpture, installation, and film. Recently, Ash has been developing structures that interfere with performer-audience relationships, and the power dynamics of perception. They find value in mediating fleeting moments of viewing, and reflect on the lasting impacts that bodies and performance leave on physical spaces. Ash’s work examines the tension between information that is stored and processed using biodegradable memory, versus the surplus digital captures and downloads of our current reality.📸studio portrait by @keykeyyan by @aashbland

Box #1 Wood, charcoal, spy hole lenses, mirror film, water chestnuts “Box” is a system that distorts and shields the performer from their audience, bringing tension to a relationship that is already ridden with power dynamics. It also explores themes of transition, perception, and states of being.From my first crit at the Slade, also accompanied by an audio piece and a performance done by myself by @aashbland

excited to be showing some new work alongside three lovely artists (and friends) next week at Everybody Lives Galleryone night only, 6-9pm, bring your friends and hang with us after at the Haggerston bar upstairs till late 💖💟💗👄438 Kingsland Road, London E8 4AA. . . ‘to be close to u.’ is an exhibition that explores intimacy, yearning and the complexity of connection after the digital age. We are in an era of 24 hr live streams, endless notifications and ai sex bots: within this context the exhibiting artists display a common sensibility in their expression and ability to find closeness through layers of separation, be they material, medium or process. The artists posit deeply emotive and personal perspectives within their referential and culturally considered visual vernacular, an energizing artistic approach that questions the nature of sensation and desire today.The show includes James Milner, Theo Vasiloudes, Ash Bland and Tom Motley, and will take place on the 22nd of January @everybodylivesgallery, 438 KINGSLAND RD E8 4AA from 6pm to 9pm Artists@butterflie__ @theo.vasiloudes @aashbland@webdrivertorso___ by @aashbland
