“Look how they massacred my boy” 😭😭

Lalgir Chambers went under renovation earlier this year and I almost wish that they’d had just gotten rid of the original lettering rather than doing whatever they did.

Because… Chambers has now become CHAMBED. And that M stands for Massacre. And that uggs gold.

The new lettering looks like AI Slop. I suppose we can claim that in India we can make handcrafted slop. Ugh.

The only downside of having @aashim in Zangskar is ending up with way too many good pictures and absolutely no idea what to do with them.

So, here’s a little compilation of life on field in Zangskar from summer 2026. taken in Zanskar Valley by @aashim

An almost one-year birthday of The Only City: Bombay in Eighteen Stories. 🌆

The brilliant @aashim and I took her out to Bandra fair and Bandra fort to celebrate. It was a lovely afternoon; I find crowds, construction, and maybe even cranes romantic when the light is right.

Aashim has been documenting Bombay’s typefaces for about 20 years now with @streettypearchive but he settled for a face and type. He said we must make more pictures soon—“Let’s meet at 6 am…!” Needless to say these might be the only photos we will have between us for a while.

Curious if others have a favourite time of day to feel the city?

Rummaging through some old hard drives, I found this folder of images of a test shoot I did for and with my brother, @thetyagiakshay who styled his friend @tarasutaria in @dior and got her todance for the camera.

Was quite happy to see them again and sharing again.
Much love to everyone who was part of this from a few years back. by @aashim

I spent a few weeks in the Zanskar Valley with Shuchita Grover (@shuchita_grover, @landofwhitecopper) as she worked on her PhD research on the history of the region. It was an incredible time photographing ancient manuscripts, some of the oldest villages in the valley, annual sacred festivals, and trekking with an amchi as she gathered the herbs and flowers she uses to make medicine. I also photographed an astonishing place that defies any understanding of scale and monumentality.

These are just a few mood pieces. I’m working through the individual stories and will post and share them in due time.

Thanks, Shu, for letting me tag along.
I can’t wait to do it again. 🩶🤍 by @aashim

Street°Type°Archive was born from that answer.

It’s Aashim’s way of documenting and archiving the places he passes through, and as he does, some parts of those places become frozen forever on his page.

As we spoke more about his work, he introduced us to what he does and how he does it.

What initially drew you to photograph this particular place, building, or detail?

”Visual rhythm and architecture, most of the time. But really it's the whole design system of a place: the typography, the materials, the colours, the layout logic that a city or neighbourhood settles into without anyone formally designing it.

Coming from a design background, I read these as systems rather than one-off details, the same way a brand has a visual language even when no one's written it down. That's the starting point for Street°Type°Archive, and it's also what pulls me into my other projects, most recently Bombay Sandwich: watching how a city's visual landscape gets rewritten as it's rebuilt.”

What was it about these images that made you stop and take it?

”Usually it's not one image on its own. It's a pattern that surfaces across many photographs over time. In Street°Type°Archive, that's a sign or material that informs a city's design language, either out of step with the system around it, or a reminder of an old craftsmanship or personal expression that used to drive these decisions rather than economic ones.

In Bombay Sandwich, it's often not just the contrast of a new building overlapping the old but a way of life caught mid-transition, and how a city's unintended visual ephemera becomes an act of remembrance against the change.”

What does that element/type/design reveal to you about the city?

”How fast development imposes itself physically. How the pursuit of efficiency opens the gates to gentrification, losing the quirks that made a place unique.

I track local signage, architecture, and public spaces, where the first visible signs of change usually show up, using typography as a first layer into understanding and telling the cultural stories of places and the people who make them.”

Looking back at the images now, has your understanding of them changed over time?
