Discovered a new favorite spot — Many Many Things! A beautiful propshop by @dharajain @zainabbadani & @shairakapoor that feels like a mini Chor Bazar but with its own warm soul. From vintage treasures to quirky finds, every corner has a story. I spent 2 hours in awe, and honestly could’ve stayed all day. Dhara herself is the sweetest and makes the space even more welcoming. Truly, one of those “many many things” you end up falling in love with. taken in Versova, Mumbai by @aashnasethiii

Putali//
Nepal’s best-known puppets (putali) are a type of marionette (string puppet) used by the Newars of the Kathmandu Valley.
The putali are suspended from wooden manipulation slats by heavy thread secured through the headdress or crown, the back, and the hands. Each figure wears a long, colourful skirt of traditional fabric and, perhaps most interestingly, two masks. By turning the puppet one way, the audience sees one character; when that character turns its back to the audience, the face of another character is revealed, making it possible for one puppeteer to present multiple characters easily and quickly. The heads of the puppets are made out of papier-mâché or clay and are painted to look like the masks used in many theatrical rituals that also include iconic costumes and dance. This relates to the lively mask culture of the Newars that has been detailed by Toffin.
The mask-like faces of the puppets are not human or realistic but are shaped and painted to represent familiar deities, such as the elephant god Ganesh, the tantric ferocious god Bhairab, the goddess Durga, and other characters from the Hindu or Buddhist pantheon.
In their outstretched hands, the puppets hold emblematic props associated with the deity represented by the mask.

One day they’ll be too cool for buttercream-covered fingers and asking for extra sprinkles, they’ll have places to be and people to impress. Today, they’re six years old, and I’m quietly hoping time takes its time. by @aashnasethiii

Every winter, a familiar face comes to our home and spreads his shawls in the garden, just like he has for years.

I’ve been seeing this since I was a child. Back then, it was my dadi who would step outside first. She would sit on the chair in the sun while he unfolded each shawl for her, slowly, patiently. They would talk about the cold, about small everyday things.

I didn’t know it then, but I was watching a tradition being made.

Now, years have passed. Dadi isn’t here anymore.
But every winter, the shawl wale bhaiya still comes.
He spreads his shawls in the same garden.
And now it’s my mom who sits there, feeling the fabric, choosing one just like dadi used to.

So much in life changes quietly. People leave. Roles shift.
But this one small thing stays.
And with it comes a rush of memories, of dadi in the winter sun, of childhood winters, of a time that feels far away but not gone.

Everytime I see those shawls spread on our grass, I feel like dadi is close again.

To 1303,

I’m sitting here watching the afternoon sun stretch across the floor, and I realized I never properly thanked you for the way you took us in.

You met us when we were just echoes. Four bare walls and two sisters trying to find their footing in this giant, chaotic city. You remember how we started, don’t you? Just a mattress on the floor and a lot of nerves. It took us two whole years to finally bring in a proper bed, but you never felt empty.

You watched Mom move through your rooms, setting the foundation and giving us a start. You saw Dad quietly fixing the things we hadn’t even noticed were broken, tinkering with the bathroom faucet and the shower until the water finally ran right. They brought in the love, and with them came the rest: the hum of the fridge, the thumping washing machine, the stacks of bills, and the masala dabbas that finally made you smell like home.

You saw Ishaan walk in, always bringing enough laughter to fill every corner. You held our independence when it felt heavy with loneliness, and our celebrations when we were trying to hide how homesick we were.

Our seating is never quite enough for the amount of people who end up here, is it? But it doesn’t matter. They settle in on the floor, find a corner, and they feel at home. Mom and Dad taught us that—Atithi Devo Bhava. They taught us how to host, how to open the door wide, and how to make sure everyone felt like they belonged.
It feels like everyone we love has lived here at least once. People come, people leave, and you keep the pieces they leave behind. You were unfurnished at first, 1303, but you were never unkind.

If walls could love, I know you loved us back. This was never just a flat for me and Shivika. Ye hum sabka ghar hai, this is a home for all of us.

Always yours,
Aashna. by @aashnasethiii
