i read ā€œunlearn your painā€ by @hschubiner and i’m so confident in guiding all of my PPPD and vestibular migraine patients towards a dizzy-free life.

the biggest takeaway was understanding how the brain predicts danger/threats and signals you. this is when you feel dizzy, nauseated or get headaches.

so the way out of it is what’s called ā€œpain reprocessing therapyā€ (PRT).

PRT helps you retrain your brain that the perceived environment, activities, and tasks at hand are not harmful, and is safe. throw in consistency and you’re on route to reversing your dizziness.

if you want to know more about this ask away in the comments below or DM me. taken in Sydney, Australia by @aathiphysio

Dizzy but don’t know why?

Comment ā€œquizā€ and I’ll send you a free dizziness decoder quiz that helps you understand which vestibular condition your symptoms point to. taken in Sydney, Australia by @aathiphysio

Dizziness comes in so many different ways and it’s so important to find the root cause rather than just try to fix the symptoms through medications.

The gaze stability exercise is great to retrain the connection between your eye muscles and your head movements (known as your vestibular ocular reflex VOR).

BAD for vestibular migraine - can often trigger more symptoms and flare ups.

GOOD for chronic dizziness - with graded exposure you’ll feel more confident and can help you focus on certain objects/targets.

GREAT for vestibular neuritis - the infection reduces the information sent from the nerves in your inner ear, so this will get the VOR firing again.

Vestibular Migraine vs PPPD.

It’s very common for you to have both at the same together.

Think of the vestibular migraines as episodes, and PPPD as constant dizziness when you’re up and moving.

What other symptoms do you get?

There’s 2 main types of vertigo and this is why a manoeuvre like the Epley only works for some.

So you need to get it assessed to figure out what type of BPPV you have before you decide to throw your head around to clear it.

Medication works to suppress your dizzy and nauseous signals. This is a good way to feel better instantly, but won’t fix the actual root cause to your symptoms.

Manoeuvres work to reposition loose crystals (otoconia) in BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).

If someone’s told you your dizziness is just anxiety, they’re about 50% right because it’s actually a cycle.

We call this the dizzy-anxiety loop, and breaking out of this is something you can do by following these 2 steps:

1. When you get dizzy, choose to respond rather than react.
2. Reassure yourself out loud or written somewhere that ā€œI am safe. This is just a signal that my brain is scared, but I’m not scaredā€. Just go about your day.

What other questions do you have that have been unanswered so far about your dizziness?

it took me 30 years to learn that…..

1. Perfectionism killed my growth. I waited for perfect conditions to sing or write songs — perfect mood, perfect time, perfect setup. Meanwhile I could’ve just shown up and been okay with rough.

2. Burnout comes from doing work that doesn’t reward you. Not from doing too much.

3. You procrastinate because you’re scared of what success actually demands of you next. by @aathiphysio

Your GP has a million things to look out for, but your specific type of BPPV is not one of them.
