“Look Up!” Has been a recurring invitation in my life recently.

When hiking, I often focus on the path beneath my feet. I don’t want to trip over a root, miss a turn, or take the wrong trail. I found myself doing this again while hiking the beautiful Angel’s Peak trail in Kentucky. Then, all of a sudden, I broke my normal routine and looked up.

I was astonished by the beauty above me—the canopy of leaves swaying in the wind, the different shades of green, and the sunlight filtering through the branches. There was so much beauty overhead that I could have completely missed if I had kept my eyes fixed on the path.

As I continued down the trail with this new perspective, I noticed something: My neck started to get tired from looking up so much. It made me think about our relationship with God. When we look up to God in the midst of our lives, it can sometimes feel hard, or unnatural if we have not had a lot of practice. But the more we look to Him, the stronger we become. Our spiritual “necks” grow stronger as we continue to lift our eyes toward Him.

During another walk that same weekend, I realized something else. If I spent the entire time looking up, I could miss the beauty on the ground. There were wildflowers along the trail that I would have overlooked if I never glanced down. It reminded me that while God invites us to look up to Him, He has also filled this world with gifts for us to notice, enjoy, and delight in.

The Lord is present in all things. Sometimes it simply takes a willingness to invite Him to open our eyes to see His beauty, goodness, and presence all around us in the ordinary moments of daily life. by @abburritodorito
