happy birthday, taiki 🎂

despite 28 years of me talking smack about taiki and being punished by inheriting her forehead, i really do love her. i think my favorite version of sailor star maker is and will probably forever be hikari ono’s take on her in the ‘90s/early 2000s sailor moon musicals. eien densetsu: the final first stage is one of my most favorite things in the world, and where a lot of my characterization for taiki comes from. it’s just so good.

anyways… looking forward to the day that these three ✨appear✨ again. i’ll be kind i promise*~

One of my other favorite things outside of cosplay to do is to go to the theatre and I wanted to share some of that love here 💖I contain multitudes…

I wanted to try and see at least one show a month this year, and well, life happens a lot, so it didn’t quite end up that way. But I still thoroughly enjoyed this year in theatre, kept my TodayTix gold status (lol). Here are some highlights:

- Seeing Romeo & Juliet with my longtime online friend as we hung out for the first time IRL
- Seeing Death Becomes Her on a my birthday - a first for me!
- Seeing Eva Noblezada and Orville Peck’s first performance in Cabaret. CHILLS. Everyone was phenomenal, but I came out of this show especially in awe of Orville Peck’s Emcee
- Seeing my favorite Japanese actress perform in NYC again this year! How lucky am I! Riona Tatemichi is such a sweet person and fabulous actress and having front row seats to the Super Live AND getting to follow her on the Japan Day Parade float for her role in Attack on Titan the musical were both so special. Still asking for a Blu-ray release of the 2019 Super Live though, just saying
- Justice for Audra McDonald’s Gypsy always and forever
- Monsoon season on Broadway
- Ending the year with one of my favorite shows of all time, Ragtime. Joshua Henry, I hope you get the Tony, you so deserve it

Any other fellow theatre-goers have any highlights this year? I want to try and see more smaller/off-Broadway shows next year, as well as some others on my radar, like Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York and Masquerade (I’m glad it’s extended)!

I’ve been wanting to do some sort of retro looking back on the year in cosplay (and theatre! Separate post on that soon), and here it is!

MAGFest: MAG was a perfect Kigu con - being @asteri_xiv’s FFXIV Chocobo and No Anime penguin was a blast. Also got to meet some of the absolutely amazing @cybertronicband just walking around!

Otakon: AKA Yuricon 2025 😂 Finally got to be the Nana to @asteri_xiv’s Hachi <3 Also got to do green Yuri with @chellygel! Shiori made a brief appearance on Sunday.

Moonie black & white dress shoot: This shoot was such a lovely time and it was super fun to rep both Michiru and Yaten! I had a lot of fun thrifting different outfits and pairing them with parts of my own wardrobe to build out outfits I thought fit both of these characters. I am trying to be more thoughtful and sustainable in my cosplay efforts and this ticked those boxes for me, while being an amazing day with friends. 🥹

AnimeNYC: Ohhhh ANYC. You are a con that is in NYC. It was fun to be Nana again! I also did Naru/Molly for the Sailor Moon meetup because I just didn’t want to wear a wig and people were SO excited?? It was really precious.

Magical Girls Festival: @magicalgirlsfestival was one of the highlights of my YEAR! It was such a cute event full of love and passion for a genre that is too often overlooked. The Utena love I got was amazing too :))) I am super excited to see what next year brings!

👻: Ghosty shenanigans with the crew at Round 1 was so much fun and I won so many crane game plushies 😂 I was too burnt out from moving to do much, but @nianyanyancosplay had my back with a ghost of my own!

…What a year! I think the thing that sticks out most to me is how much I prioritized comfort with cosplay this year. I didn’t push my body just to wear a fancier outfit or wig: I met it where it was at and enjoyed the ride. Here’s to more fun with friends at my own pace in 2026 🥰

One year ago, I married the love of my life, @chellygel. 🥰

In trying to think of one word to describe our first year of marriage, the word “tumultuous” was the first to come to mind (lol). But I think a better word is “healing.” And healing often isn’t easy, but it leaves you in a better place than you were before. This year’s healing has been a literally physical for both of us, but also mental and emotional as we moved and settled into a new home that met our (and our dogs’) needs and learned what rest can truly look like as we continue to build our lives together.

As challenging as healing and the growth that comes with healing can be, loving you and choosing you just becomes more and more natural every day, my love. Happy 1st anniversary 💕

you are always shining ✨

one day, i will cosplay taiki, then i’ll do another three lights row and laugh at myself. in the meantime… here we are ✨ i am annoyed — i keep trying to make a post with the original nagareboshi he but instagram keeps removing it and only giving me the new one. nah. don’t get me wrong, the new version in sailor moon cosmos is also good, but it doesn’t hit the same for me. i did a poll on this a while back and most answers either liked both or preferred the ‘90s version. i mean, for me, if it’s the sailor starlights, i’m in. 🤪

one day us three will return for our next tour and drop an album. it’ll be called “okayyyyy” because we just don’t care anymore, okayyyyyy? 🎶

I somehow blinked and Otakon is over and now it’s time for @animenyc?? Wild! Anyway, keeping it chill this year and bringing Nana out again, but without the leopard coat in 80 degree weather, lol. Gonna do a more casual look with her red skirt! I also was going back and forth what to do for Saturday as I wanted to do a Moonie cosplay for @rizuki’s 8th annual Sailor Moon Meetup, but I honestly didn’t want to wear a wig… Then I remembered Naru/Molly exists and we have the same hair! 🤣 I did her for the Super Live casually and that was fun, so I’ll bring her out for real this year ✨

I’m Aware of My Limits and so I won’t be at all four days of the con this year, but looking forward to seeing friends and making the most of the time I do spend at AnimeNYC 🥰

What a magical day at the penultimate North American Tour performance of @sailormoon_thesuperlive! All the actresses were so phenomenal, and the special effects were super unique and well-executed! It was amazing to be able to share the Sailor Moon love with my wife @chellygel 🥰 - she managed to get us front row seats, which is something I've never experienced in NYC! Seeing all these amazing actress up close was something I'll never forget!

The Super Live has been so special to me since I saw it in 2019 in DC and NYC, and it was extra special to be able to see @riona_tatemichi reprise her role as Tuxedo Mask! It's no secret she's one of my favorite actresses, but the way she embodies Tuxedo Mask is always such a joy to see - the way she showed his softness and sweetness with Usagi was so heartwarming, but she also showed his corruption by Queen Beryl equally well! She never makes the show about Tuxedo Mask - she truly embodies the character by always having him always help Usagi shine. Her gorgeous singing voice always adds such depth to ensemble numbers, and I loved her solo numbers this go round!

I also have to mention how much I adored @riko_2768 as Sailor Moon - her voice was so incredibly powerful, and she portrayed all sides of Usagi so well. Her expressions were the cutest!! I loved being front and center to see her performance.

I could wax poetic about this cast all day, truly every cast member put their all into every bit of choreography, music, and acting and it showed! The show was so well-cast and I'm so lucky to have been able to experience it.

I'll be eagerly waiting to see what the future of Sailor Moon musical tours is - Outer Guardians next time, maybe? 👀 But for now, swipe through to see more memories of the day, including some of my fave shots from the Moonlight Densetsu performance! My iPhone 13 Pro was trying its best (with the help of me playing with Affinity Photo 2 in post) 😂
