From everyone at the Abilene Flying Bison, we're excited to introduce you to Tim Newton, our 2027 Hitting Coach!

After playing INF/Utility at the JUCO and D1 levels (FLCC, Cornell University), @tnewt6 worked as an onfield coach, strength and conditioning trainer, and private hitting and fielding instructor for numerous organizations. Throughout his coaching career, he’s developed high level high school and collegiate players in both New York and Tennessee.

2027 Manager, @mikespears34, had this to say about his appointment of Newton as Flying Bison Hitting Coach:

“I’m happy to announce the addition of Tim Newton to the Flying Bison Staff.

Newton is the Hitting Coach at Chattanooga State Community College and is a tireless, working machine when it comes to his hitters. You will always find him in the cages working with hitters. His dedication and work ethic made him an easy choice."

Welcome, Tim! 🦬🪽 by @abileneflyingbison

As a former independent baseball player with playing experience in the United States and Australia, Silva brings firsthand experience of the game to his coaching and player-development approach.

Currently @sidearmsilva is an assistant pitching coach under 2027 AFB Manager Mike Spears at Chattanooga State Community College.

On bringing Manny onboard, @mikespears34 says:

Is this heaven? No, it’s Flying Bison Baseball 💙

Our very own bat boy, Grant, had an opportunity to visit the Field of Dreams today — and he did it in style. HOW COOL IS THAT. taken in Field of Dreams by @abileneflyingbison

For Mike Spears, coaching isn’t about the big moments — it’s about the little things we do each day to be better than the day before. Coach Mike brings this mentality and a wealth of experience to Abilene where he steps into the manager role for your Flying Bison during the 2027 season.

Introducing the manager of your 2027 Abilene Flying Bison, Mike Spears! 🦬🪽

Mike comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience, and is currently the Pitching and Player Development Coach for @chattstate.

John Stark, President and General Manager of the Flying Bison, had this to say about Spears joining the organization:

“I absolutely could not be more excited to introduce Mike Spears as the next manager of the Flying Bison. Coach Spears brings an abundance of baseball knowledge to the table but will also be able to share his life experiences off the field to pour into our players and make them more well-rounded individuals.

He is ready to embrace the Flying Faithful and the community as a whole as we move into this next era of Flying Bison Baseball.”

We’re so excited to have @mikespears34 join the Flying Bison organization and look forward to him elevating our program in 2027. Welcome, Coach Spears! by @abileneflyingbison
