as part of a belated windrush day celebration, im reading a couple things at my beloved bernie grant arts centre in seven sisters tomoro night 9th july 🌬️
last time i performed was actually there for tottenham literature festival last year, when i had a cheeky selfie but also very sentimental moment seein my name amongst some other iconic black writers outside my green room door 🥺

patrice lumumba turns 100 this year. i wonder how long he woulda lived & what congo woulda looked like now, if they never killed him on this day in 1961, january 17th... 🐆🇨🇩❤️‍🩹
langston hughes wrote a beautiful poem called "lumumba's grave" & in her autobiography "heart of a woman", maya angelou wrote about the demonstration she helped organise at the united nations after the assassination✍🏾🔏 #blackwritersmatter
"soundtrack to a coup d'etat" is so painful but still one of the best documentaries ive ever watched - reminded me of how it felt to read "king leopold's ghost". a heartbreaking story, told with tenderlovingcare... could say a million things about it all but i dont really feel like talkin these days🌬️💭 by @abondance_

in uganda, international women's day is a public holiday. one of the ppl we celebrates is my grandma, cos she was one of the first 3 northern ugandan girls to go to makerere in the 60s, the only university in our country at the time... 💐
its my mums first mothers day without her mother this weekend. i dont kno how to be a daughter to a woman grieving the person whose womb she came from, but god is guiding me, even against my own will moretime. i dont kno how to be a sister to my favourite boys who was right by nanas side whenever she needed her grandchildren. both of them turn a year older this month and its a big turn, life has been making them mature so much lately, but they are handlin it well n becoming men before my eyes🥺
all i can do is be there, but i dont always have the energy for all that (nothing new tbh lol) everyones tellin my mum be strong for the kids then tellin us to be strong for my mum lol im so sorry but theres actually been days none of us have the strength to bathe our skin or fry a single egg, so nows actually the time for our ppl to be strong for us.
but ppls been showin up tho - family, community, friends, neighbours, colleagues etc. 🙌🏾
honourable mention to my one good sis tasha. its not news dat she's got me, but now i kno she would do anything go anywhere for me n my family. only god can bless her for how she's been by our side, mine in particular💞
honourable mention to my cousinsister who's technically my aunty nicole. she took this picture. we lost our grandmas a week apart from each other. we was born a year and a month apart from each other. my mummas first daughter. nics gna figure out how to be there for my aunty molly & ima figure out how to be dere for her aunty fiona. and i just kno we both got each other in the process. possibly a lifelong one. we come from a line of very formidable women n sisterhood has been our survival tactic up til now so nothin needs to change about that🫡 taken in Otuke District by @abondance_

#adidasbystellamccartney jus made dere 1st gender neutral collection as in its for any n everyone to wear as in da gyaldem can lend dere man a jumper as in a figure8 can look as cute as a slimting in da same thing as in it dont matter ya height or ya size or ya nutten are u tryna be comfortable or what😂
personally im quite honoured i was asked to write summink #createdwithadidas to promote #aSMCFW22 n im proud how it come out cah i werent sureee i could do it properly yano but its all about jus showin ppl its calm to move how u move n be how u be cah if u express urself authentically ur gna remind or inspire a next person dat its dere duty to be demself n maybe u will find a tribe of ppl like u maybe u will create a community or a legacy dats gna make it easier for a next generation to stand firm in dere identity aswell 🌍

i wrote a lil sutten 'ready when we steady' for #adidasbystellamccartney in response to volume 2 of da new collection #aSMCFW22 #createdwithadidas my favourite outfit is dis cute oversized lilac tracksuit my fav colour from when i was a kid 💟
fun fact my 1st poem i eva wrote was called 'purple' n it got published in my school newspaper in year 4 lol i bet 8yr old me neva woulda thought id grow up n write poems for fashion films🥺🤍👼🏾
i used to practice my joined up handwriting like my lil life depended on it can u imagine now da ppldem r askin me to write out my own words now n scan it n put it on da internet 😹
