Halfway through Hurry Home by Roz Nay and it's really good so far. I had a hard time putting it down for a break. I loved The Hunted, so I feel lucky to find this on the shelf at my local library!

Well, it's been a while....but I'm still here.

Still reading, just not nearly as often. I've been finding comfort in organizing, purging, and cataloging my books in between reading days.

Looking forward to hopping on here a bit more than I have the last few months, while dealing with life's inevitable challenges.

QOTD: what are you currently reading?

I started a horror novel called The Portal. So far it is pretty good. by @abookwormatheart2

#selfcaresaturday Drinking some tea and reading to calm my mind today 🍡

It has been a bit of a whirlwind the last couple of weeks, with the end of the school year, lots of appointments and the start of some counseling for myself. It's something I probably should have done a long time ago, but it's never too late to start taking the steps necessary to heal.

I'm almost finished with The Grandest Garden and hope to finish it off today.

🎡 Book Review - Honey by Isabel Banta 🎡

Thank you to @celadonbooks for having me as part of this readalong. I enjoyed reading this book with a great group of book lovers and seeing how each of our perspectives differed.

Be sure to check out their reviews too!

My thoughts:

Honey chronicles popstar Amber Young's career in the 90s and early 2000s. From a young age, she finds comfort in her singing abilities, and after slogging through a myriad of auditions, she is so excited to finally land a deal that will jumpstart her career. But, being in the public eye is not what she imagined, and as her career takes some unexpected turns, she struggles to reconcile a life that brings her happiness and a life of fame and stardom.

Isabel Banta's writing had a lyrical quality that drew me in, right from the start. I was completely engrossed in this novel and it hit me with wave after wave of nostalgia. Young's journey was very reminiscent of those girl groups and pop stars that I enjoyed listening to as a young teen. The entire time I was reading, Gwen and Amber gave me Britney vs Christina vibes.

Banta perfectly captured Amber's insecurities and the effects of both her father's absence, and her mother's alcoholism, on her life. She goes searching for love in all the wrong places and it was so frustrating at times, because I just wanted to reach out and hug her. I wanted to tell her that she deserved more. But, I could also empathize with her and her attempts to cope in the only way she knew at the time. When you don't know what a healthy love should look like, sometimes people have to find out the hard way, and I feel like there are so many readers that will connect to that part of Amber, too.

I read this as part of a group readalong and it has been really interesting to see different perspectives. I think this would make a great book club read!

The end, though it felt a tad rushed, I loved it. It gave me the feeling of a satisfying conclusion as well as a hopeful future.

Thank you to Celadon for sending a #gifted copy my way!

I'm so excited to be taking part in the #SummerPopUp tour for #TheGrandestGarden by @ginastories 🫢

Thank you to @booksparks for sending me a #gifted copy to read and share!

πŸ‘‡ Synopsis: πŸ‘‡

Bella Fontaine is on her own. Fresh out of college and with the winnings from her first international photography competition, she decides to leave Los Angeles to forge a new life in New York City. But will she be able to overcome the trauma of her childhood and her break from home to make it as a successful artist and professional photographer in a new city? Or will her secrets catch up with her ,and keep her from developing the relationships she needs to make her dreams come true?

We meet young Bella just after her tenth birthday, and her grandmothers, Olivette and Miriam, each with a beautiful, mature garden as different from each other as the two gardeners who tend them. As Bella’s homelife begins to unravel, she relies on her grandmother’s gardens as her refuge for stability and belonging. But when Miriam moves in with Olivette in search of healing, the grandmothers bond in a way that makes Bella feel excluded. What happens next sends Bella out into the world before she is ready.

The Grandest Garden is a poignant coming-of-age story about the ties that bind us to our people and how to survive when they break.

I am excited to share the May @tearunners unboxing today! #gifted

It may be a bit later than I intended but depression is unpredictable and life has been tough to balance.

I went with the original tea subscription and kept the tea choices as a surprise, because I think surprises are fun, but you can always customize your selections if that is your preference!

Tea blends featured:

β˜• Blue Lady Grey - caffeinated, black tea with bergamot, lavender and a hint of vanilla.
β˜• Apricot White - low in caffeine, fruity blend with apricot, lemongrass, herbs and more. Perfect warm or iced!
β˜• CreΜ€me BruΜ‚lée Black - caffeinated, an indulgent, buttery blend of black tea and creΜ€me bruΜ‚lée flavour
β˜• Coconut Macaroon Green Rooibos - caffeine-free and packed with antioxidants, a blend of green rooibos, coconut, safflower blossoms and cocoa nibs

The June selections made me want to customize my box for this month, so if you love trying new tea flavours, head to their website (link in bio) and use code BOOKWORM10 to save on your first order!

Thank you to Tea Runners for having me on board as an ambassador!

QOTD: Which blend would you try first? If you're not a tea fan, what is your go to beverage?

I'm trying the Apricot White first because I love fruity teas. by @abookwormatheart2

🌿 Book Review - Vaieon by V. Casa 🌿

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of their debut fantasy.

Vaieon was such a unique story, unlike anything I've read, and I enjoyed it.

V. Casa transported me back in time to live amongst the dinosaurs right alongside Lily, a mom of two who previously lived an ordinary life. Though, there is nothing ordinary in this wild, lush and dangerous setting she finds herself in. As she comes to terms with her new reality, she must find ways to keep herself alive.

Casa captures a tenacious survivor spirit in Lily's character. Readers will really get the chance to sink into her journey as she navigates through the constantly changing world around her. Her strength and resilience were my favourite part of this novel!

I loved Lily's connections that she wound up forming. She finds comfort in unexpected places and I always appreciate that in a book.

For me, I found the story dragged a bit and things felt a bit repetitive at times. I also would have loved to have had a bit more explanation in some spots and maybe an extra side character or two.

Overall though, I thought this was a good debut that many will enjoy, and I'm curious to see what is next for V. Casa.

Read if you love:

- strong FMC
- time travel
- dinosaurs
- survival stories
- outdoor adventures
- natural disasters

πŸŽƒ Book Review - Pumpkinheads by Rainbow RowellπŸŽƒ

Deja and Josiah are close friends every fall when they work at the pumpkin patch for the season. They are opposites in a lot of ways, but their love for their time at the pumpkin patch has always been a constant. This fun and sweet graphic novel is an exploration of what it means to move on from somewhere special, from people we care about, with no regrets!

Deja and Josiah were a fun pair. I loved seeing their supportive friendship in action as they go from attraction to attraction, trying to take in this beloved place one last time before they go off to college. I loved that Deja wanted to try all the different foods available, because that is always my favourite part of any event!

The illustrations were rich in colour and gave off the perfect fall vibes. Faith Erin Hicks really captured that pumpkin patch feeling.

The end had me smiling from ear to ear! I really needed something uplifting and this was perfection.

Read if you love:

- special friendships
- graphic novels
- diverse representation
- bold illustrations
- fall vibes
- pumpkin patches
