This was not a routine full-arch case.
And it definitely wasn’t easy.

This patient came in after a very traumatic bridge extraction at another clinic, living for years with a large defect and the feeling that a fixed solution might no longer be possible. But that’s exactly what he wanted—to feel whole again, with something stable and fixed.

Cases like this remind me that full-arch dentistry isn’t about doing the same thing over and over again. It’s about asking, “How can we get this patient where they want to be?”—even when the anatomy, history, and circumstances make the answer less obvious.

This required creativity, careful planning, and a willingness to step outside the standard playbook. Challenging, humbling, and incredibly rewarding.

Sometimes the best solutions aren’t the easiest ones—but they’re the ones worth fighting for.

ONE WEEK POST-OP & she already has the menu PLANNED. 🤣🦷🍕

Wisdom teeth are out, healing is going beautifully, and now we’re discussing the very important question: “When can I eat all of this?!” 😂

Her recovery craving list includes nachos, wings, pizza, mozzarella sticks, fish & chips, a “delicious hot dog” 😂 …and apparently Hot Cheetos made the cut.

Ma’am… NO HOT CHEETOS YET! 🤣🤣🤣

We’re doing great, but let’s give those extraction sites another couple of weeks before the hard, crunchy stuff. 👏🏾

For now: keep those sockets clean, follow your post-op instructions, and keep healing beautifully. 💕🦷

Wisdom teeth: gone.
Appetite: VERY much alive. 🤣

Today reminded me why I love teaching. 🩵

We had the opportunity to host Jackson Major, a pre-dental student from The Ohio State University, for a day of shadowing at About Face Oral & Facial Surgery.

Watching students who are eager to learn always takes me back to my own journey. Mentorship opened doors for me, and it’s something I’ll never stop giving back.

And I have to give a shout-out to George, he and Jackson are both brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., so it made the day even more special! 👌🏾♦️

They say representation matters. I agree, but excellence matters even more.

Less than 2% of oral and maxillofacial surgeons are Black women, and I’m proud to be one of them.

I’m an oral & maxillofacial surgeon.
I’m the owner of @aboutfacesurgery
I’m a wife.
I’m a mom.
I’m an Air Force veteran.
I’m a teacher.
I’m a speaker.
I’m an entrepreneur.

And yes… I still hear comments like:
• “You don’t look like a surgeon.”
• “Women aren’t as good at surgery.”
• “Do you know what you’re doing?”
• “I thought my surgeon would be a man.”
• “Where’s the real owner?”

To all of those, my response is simple:

Who said that? 🤔

I don’t fit everyone’s expectation of what a surgeon looks like, and that’s okay. My patients don’t choose me because of stereotypes. They choose me because of my training, experience, compassion, and results.

Here’s to changing perceptions, opening doors, and making sure the next generation sees what’s possible.
