🔔 SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION! 🔔

We are excited to announce that our Social Justice Residency, an extension of our Young Theaterworks program, is back in full swing! We are partnering with two different high schools within the LAUSD, including the Math, Science, and Technology Magnet Academy at Roosevelt High School @mstmaatrhs , and Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez High School @mendezhs_jaguars .

For over 25 years, our Young Theaterworks program has served highest-risk and educationally underrepresented youth in L.A.-area public high schools with high impact, project-based learning that improves academic achievement and creative engagement. Consider sponsoring a student to help uplift and empower these young artists to become stewards of their community’s history!

The donation link can be found in our bio as well. #aboutPD #LATHTR #SocialJusticeResidency #artseducation #YoungTheaterworks by @aboutpd

CONGRATS to our MSTMA students for two inspiring ensemble pieces presented last week at the Roosevelt HS Ct for the Performing Arts! Based on monologues written as part of our “Art of the Monologue” 7-week workshop, students performed (some for the first time) in “Reflections of You: Original Monologues on Belonging & Becoming.” Lead Teaching Artist and Program Manager Marlene Beltran and MSTMA classroom teacher Ms. Mixpe Ley directed the performances, and teaching artist Marta Portillo coached the students. Teaching artists Brandon Rachal and Anthony Aguilar developed the monologues with the students, along with Beltran, Ley, and Portillo.

BIG THANKS to all who attended, and to MSTMA Principal Juana Kawasaki and Assistant Principal Monica Guerrero for their ongoing support of Young Theaterworks. Our year-long partnership gives us the opportunity to significantly impact your students’ creative engagement and academic achievement.

This was an exciting way to continue celebrating the 25th ANNIVERSARY of YOUNG THEATERWORKS! More INFO on how to SUPPORT this transformative program for public high school youth is in our BIO.

Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of THE ART of DREAMING on 3 fantastic shows this past weekend! We’d like to thank director—Marlene BELTRAN and our writer/performers—Sayda TRUJILLO, Brandon RACHAL, Catherine Dee HOLLY, and Marta PORTILLO, for their hard work and dedication to bringing this unique and inspiring work to the stage. For a closed audience last Thursday, THE ART of DREAMING also included a special performance featuring students from Mendez, Marshall, and the Math, Science, and Technology Magnet Academy at Roosevelt High School where they performed their own original monologues from our “Art of the Monologue Workshops”.

To conclude our weekend, our fabulous Board held a successful fundraiser to celebrate the 25th ANNIVERSARY of YOUNG THEATERWORKS and raise crucial funds for our future youth programs. Huge thank you to everyone who came out to support us this weekend including fundraiser attendees, silent auction donors, individual donors, and audience members, and the cast and crew of THE ART of DREAMING. We’re so grateful to be able to share this dream with you all!
