Install shots of my photographs in Art in the Sky: An exhibition of international art kites at @glynnvivian , curated by Isabel Griffin.

Hedfan Barcutiaid yn Eryri (Flying Kites in Eryri) are part of document the flight of handmade kites across the landscape of Llynnau Mymbyr, beneath Yr Wyddfa during the winter of 2023. The kites were made from repurposed ripstop fabric, printed with photographs of lake water. Then flown and rephotographed back into the air.

The show is up until Sunday 27 September and is the UK’s first big exhibition dedicated to contemporary art kites. If you go, you'll want to start making kites 🪁

Thank you @isabelgriffin63 & @glynnvivian for supporting and showing these photos amongst such amazing art works.

I never thought that some photographs of kites I made a few years ago would make it into such a gently powerful show of international artists and kite makers. Thrilled beyond words to be included in such a mesmerising show. Please go and visit this summer 🌞 by @abpoulson

Work recap part 2 //

In the spring I left mid Wales and moved to Caerfyrddin to start a new job at @oriel_myrddin. I’ll be designing & delivering art engagement programmes for communities & education and managing marketing and communications for the gallery (wooo)

I can’t wait to sow seeds and watch them grow, and hopefully make more art again soon in my tiny new home. Here’s some images from recent workshops and activities led alongside Daisy @naturalcuriositystudio

Work recap part 1 //

Assistant Curator of Public Programmes at @artesmundi 💫

From September 25 to April 26 I worked alongside @amytreharne and the Artes Mundi team to deliver the public programme for AM11. We worked with a team of six amazing engagement producers and planned and delivered talks, workshops, tours and more across five venues in Wales and connecting internationally online.

Favourite highlights include participating in @jumanasan’s water diviner project and watching sunrises on the train from Aberystwyth to Cardiff. I’m really grateful to have worked with and met so many new inspiring people, in Wales and elsewhere in the world. Being able to freelance from Mid Wales and work internationally was a special thing. Congratulations again to the artists, contributors and the legacy AM11 holds.

Rwy’n cyffroes i rannu fy mod wedi cael i ddewis ar gyfer y rhaglen Goruchwylio+ Cymru yn Fenis // I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected for the Invigilator+ Programme for @walesinvenice for @labiennale

I can’t wait to spend time with the work of @manon_awst and @dylan__huw this September for their project Sownd, and work on my own creative project this September.

I’ve been following Manon’s work for years and have been heavily inspired by the material connection of her sculptures, her cross-disciplinary research in science, more specifically in peat, and how she’s used her knowledge gathered to inform the shape, structure and encounters she has with the land. I was first introduced to Dylan through Pegwn, a project led by @peakcymru that explored Welsh Language futures, when I was their trustee. I’ve followed Dylan’s work since and am inspired by how he’s using his written practice not only as a way to challenge and reshape Cymraeg for the future, but also connecting and holding space for artists/writers and thinkers to share ideas and critical thinking, reshaping creative communities in Wales.

Both artists are working with elements of underrepresentation, in land, language and in community. I’m excited to see what this collaboration presents as and to share that with audiences.

Dyma lluniau o ein diwrnod hyfforddiant yn Stiwdio Cadnant, Caernarfon lle mae stiwdio Manon a Dylan // Here’s some pictures from our training day in Stiwdio Cadnant where Manon and Dylan share a studio.

Thank you to @openeyegallery for commissioning me as part of the Socially Engaged Photography Network to work with @awenculturaltrust on creatively documenting Our Freedom Then and Now. A project by @futureartscentres which brings together stories by people about what they think freedom means today.

During documenting @awenculturaltrust’s immersive Remembrance Day event I also asked people to contribute their thoughts of freedom on to tracing paper.

Last month I went to the launch in @southbankcentre and now the Fascism will Never Win cyanotype is touring around the Uk.

In the backdrop of all this I recognise the privilege we have to celebrate and make work about freedom. Standing in solidarity with people who are subject to displacement, apartheid, genocide, ecocide, violence and harm in the world. by @abpoulson

Cyanotypes and sunshine for a series of photography workshops exploring our cynefin with local secondary school students at @oriel_myrddin

Using the local archive to explore the river Towy. We gathered images and collected words to use before turning images and text into a digital negatives to for cyanotype. We also had the magic fun of making a collective giant cyanotype on fabric.

Thank you @msikkel for supporting the day, Katie at Carmarthenshire Archives for welcoming the group and @oriel_myrddin for the opportunity to share practice in the community 🌞 taken in Oriel Myrddin Gallery by @abpoulson
