Georgia Ruth launches her fifth album, Uncanny Valley, with a unique immersive live performance at CULTVR @cultvrlab

On 13 November, we'll transform our 12-metre immersive dome into a sensory journey through the suburban landscapes that inspired her new album.

Rooted in Georgia's experience of moving from Aberystwyth to the rural outskirts, Uncanny Valley explores domestic life, the comfort of home and the uneasy relationship between safety and uncertainty.

Featuring photography by Abby Poulson @abpoulson, whose work also forms the album artwork, and videography by Sam Stevens @sam.ffoto all brought to life within our 360° immersive environment.

With special guest Ani Glass @ani_glass opening the night.

Poster am y prosiect newydd gan HOUSE OF DREAD, gyda cefnogaeth gan Southbank Centre.

I spent quite some time considering this patch of concrete surrounded by heat-singed grass near the tower, and wrote a short piece about data centres and the notion of ‘ruin’ as a wildfire smoked in the distance.

Nes i arfer dipyn o amser yn ystyried y lle goncrit hwn, wedi’i amgylchynu gan porfa sych, ac ysgrifennais ddarn byr am ganolfannau data, y syniad o ‘ruin’ gyda’r tan wyllt yn y bellder.

EP Pydru ymlaen ALLAN HEDDIW / OUT TODAY ar @bwgibwgan💿

I barhau. I bydru ymlaen. I ymddiried hyd yn oed mewn pydredd, bod rhywbeth newydd yn cymryd siâp yn dawel.

Ysgrifennais y caneuon yma'n y bylchau rhwng llonyddwch a symudiad, caethiwed a rhyddhau, galar ac adnewyddu. Maent yn dal darnau o Gymru a'r Alban, hwiangerddi, breuddwydion, atgofion, a'r gobaith y bydd trawsnewid yn aml yn dechrau o dan yr wyneb, ymhell cyn y gallwn ei weld.

Diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb a helpodd i wneud yr EP hwn yn bosib, ac yn enwedig i Susannah Stark @earlywater88 am ei llais a'i harmoniwm ar Crodh Chailein.

Diolch arbennig hefyd i:
@abpoulson ar y clarinét 🪈
@louisoharamusic ar y gitâr ac am gynhyrchu a chymysgu🎛
@iwanmorgan_ am feistroli🎚

Dwi'n gobeithio y bydd y caneuon yn cwrdd â chi lle bynnag 'da chi. 🌿

//

To carry on. To rot forwards. To trust that even in decay, something new is quietly taking shape.

These songs were written in the spaces between stillness and movement, confinement and release, grief and renewal. They hold fragments of Wales and Scotland, lullabies, dreams, memory, and the hope that transformation often begins beneath the surface, long before we can see it.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this EP possible, and especially to Susannah Stark @earlywater88 for lending her voice and harmonium to Crodh Chailein.

A special thanks also to:
@abpoulson on clarinet 🪈
@louisoharamusic on guitar & also for producing & mixing🎛
@iwanmorgan_ for mastering🎚
@cwrwstudios for the vibes and fantastic production tools 🎧✨️
@penglogco for the wonderful artwork 🎨🧡

I hope these songs meet you wherever you are. 🌿

REVIEW:

A Sorry State
By Jack Moyse

The Project Space, Ffotogallery, Cardiff

Written by Sehna A.

@notabrothel @ffotogallery

-- Are you able to open cans using the pull ring of a standard can opener?

Without the context of the usual forms, the question sounds almost absurd. It is one of several lifted directly from Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Universal Credit (UC) evaluations and satirised in Jack Moyse’s A Sorry State’. ---

Darllenydd mis Mai ydi dewines y deires @ceryshafana gyda Enter Ghost gan Isabella Hammad. Fy newis i ydi How To Kill A Language gan @sophiasgaler - darlleniadau digon ysgafn felly at eich wythnos ferwedig o boeth yn yr haul.

🖤

May reader is rockstar Cerys Hafana with her pick Enter Ghost by Isabella Hammad. My choice this month is Sophia Galer’s How To Kill A Language - this is a precious book for so many reasons. In the past whenever I’ve been challenged to justify my linguistic reality (as pretentious as it sounds) I attempt to compare my experience of language to a garden. Would the garden be as colorful, fascinating or awe inspiring if it was home to only one species of plant or if it was only one kind of bird visiting the windowsill?

There’s a simplicity to the metaphor and I would sometimes bring it up in classrooms during my term as Bardd Plant Cymru - but I’ve never read a perspective so similar to mine, actually written down on the page of a book before. This is one of my favorite lines from How To Kill A Language:

“In our pursuit of a select few powerful language, in our insistence that a common language can unite us, we forget that multilingualism is - like all biodiversity - a connective tissue in the grand scheme of our existence.”
