High-angle training on Cabezon Peak. The volcanic plug rises 2,000 ft above the Rio Puerco Valley. Definitely some steep, spicy exposure, and we wanted to dial in plans and techniques for getting patients down. Thanks to our techs and leadership who put this together!

Drone image provided by @cibolasar of Albuquerque Mountain Rescue team members after making contact with a subject whose ATV had overturned and the Rio Puerco area this weekend. It is strongly recommended before heading into the outdoors to have adequate cell phone charge and backup, and to treat cell phone power as a critical commodity. Texting uses less power than placing a phone call. Know how to obtain and copy your GPS location coordinates from your phone to text to search and rescue or someone who can contact 911/search and rescue, and be familiar with your phone's emergency services if available. Satellite communicators are also strongly encouraged for those who venture into the outdoors.

Albuquerque Mountain Rescue responded to two missions last night, on opposite sides of the Rio Grande Valley. Albuquerque Mountain Rescue located an ATVer who crashed in the Rio Puerco area. During this call out, Albuquerque Mountain Rescue was called out to search for a lost hiker in the Sandias. Both missions resulted in good outcomes for all involved. Cibola SAR, Rio Rancho Fire Department, Sandoval County Sheriff also responded. Strong work from multiple teams. by @abqmtnrescue

Albuquerque Mountain Rescue responded to several incidences over the weekend, including a flash flood search in Socorro and a rescue on South Piedra Lisa, both on Friday. Saturday saw a rescue on 10K Trail, and on Sunday Albuquerque Mountain Rescue responded to a fallen climber in the Knife Edge area. Albuquerque Mountain Rescue worked side by side with its partners and friends from Sandoval County Fire, Cibola SAR, Atalaya SAR, Albuquerque Fire Rescue, UNM Medical, BCSO (Metro 4), Albuquerque Police Department and Rio Grande Heavy Technical Rescue. Heavy rains are expected throughout New Mexico this week, please use caution when outdoors and driving in flood-prone areas.

Brewfest 2026 is just a month away, and donations are starting to roll in! Thank you so much @carlaforrestfineart for your oil painting of the Sandias titled "Cottonwood Springs" for our silent auction. There's still time for local businesses and artists to donate to Brewfest, Albuquerque Mountain Rescue's fundraiser October 17 at Marble Brewery downtown.
