Great high-angle training on Cabezon Peak with an awesome team @abqmtnrescue . The volcanic plug rises 2,000 ft above the Rio Puerco Valley. Definitely some steep, spicy exposure, and we wanted to dial in plans and techniques for getting patients down. Thanks to our techs and leadership who put this together!

Today, two incredible Search and Rescue responders deserve a standing ovation for their exceptional work in the field!

At 3:00 a.m., Tayo Basquiat of Cibola SAR and Albuquerque Mountain Rescue Council, and Tyler Mobraten of Socorro SAR, answered the call to find a missing 69-year-old hiker on Mount Taylor.

Using their tracking skills and sound sweeps, they located the hiker on a remote ridge. Both EMTs, they assessed his condition, took his vital signs, and began warming and rehydrating him.

After more than three hours of navigating rugged terrain, they guided him several miles to a waiting UTV, where he was transported to an ambulance and then airlifted to the hospital.

Perhaps the most moving part of this mission? The hiker feared he wouldn’t survive the night and had begun writing messages to his family when Tayo and Tyler emerged from the darkness.

Outstanding work, Tayo and Tyler! Your skill, perseverance, and compassion brought hope when it was needed most.

The Minus 33 Merino Wool Clothing and Beyond 52 partnership is making an impact with Volunteer Search and Rescue Teams around the country!

On August 22, 2026, the Equality, Illinois Volunteer Fire Rescue Department received one SAR Kit and blanket to help treat hypothermia patients. Fire Chief Cole Baker said the Department is small and always searching for member to add to their 6 person High Angle Rope Rescue Team. The Equality Volunteer Fire Rescue Department is a primary response agency for Search and Rescue Operations in the Shawnee National Forest, Garden of the Gods recreation area.

Recently, Beyond 52 Chief Executive Karla Amador delivered two SAR Kits to the Albuquerque Mountain Rescue Council Search and Rescue Team. The Albuquerque team is a primary responder for Search and Rescue in the Cibola and Santa Fe National Forests.

On August 24, 2026, the Backcountry Unit Search and Rescue (Team BUSAR), was provided with two SAR Kits and heavy wool blanket. Team BUSAR supports Search and Rescue Rangers at the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the most visited National Park in the country! Team BUSAR is an avid supporter of Preventative Search and Rescue. In the first six months of 2026, Team BUSAR logged 140 direct mission hours, 536 mutual aid hours, 204 pre-deployment hours, 570 training hours, and an astounding 1,172 people educated.

So far our partnership has distributed seven SAR Kits and two blankets and we are just getting started. The four teams receiving the donations provide volunteer Search and Rescue service to 4 National Forests and one National Park in California, New Mexico, Illinois and Tennessee.

Congratulations to Albuquerque Mountain Rescue, one of our 2026 Search & Rescue Award recipients!

The technical rescue team plans to use the $10k grant to replace ropes and hard gear that have been overworked in New Mexico's harsh terrain. The grant will also help keep their two vehicles running reliably to assist with backcountry rescues.

This program supports volunteer teams that play a critical role in keeping outdoor recreationists safe while operating in some of the most challenging backcountry environments.

Excellent weekend of search and rescue continuing education at ESCAPE 2026 presented by the New Mexico Search and Rescue Council. Teams from all over New Mexico came together in Glorieta for classes and camaraderie, and it's always great to see @lobodustoff during daylight hours and thank the crew personally for helping us out statewide.
