It has been a few days now.
And still, the topic lingered in Kakashi's mouth, he and his wife peacefully enjoying their morning together.
"You could've let me help you cook breakfast with you, you know." he spoke, watching her from the corner of his eyes while holding his tea cup.
"Why would I ? It is your month, all you gotta do is enjoy the princess treatment."
"Absol..."
"Yessss ?" The woman cooed with that obvious teasing tone he couldn't get enough of.
"My birthday is only one day in the year."
The woman grinned, a soft expression spreading on her face, meeting his gaze. "...Your birthday was just an excuse to express my appreciation for you."
Locking eye contact, Kakashi didn't speak right away.
"...That was awfully cheesy, coming from you."
"Don't get used to it."
"Already am." He teased back this time, leaning in order to nuzzle his face against her hair. "Maybe next year... I'll let you handle my birthday again."
Absol's grin furthered at his comment.
"So you DO love me."
"Always have."

There you have it, September soon to be over, but this does not mean I'll stop expressing my love for Kakashi.

"I feel like the party hat was a bit too much."
"Nope, it looks perfect on you."

Just a cute banter between a married couple after celebrating Kakashi's birthday.
He had to admit... While it was a big day to handle, he enjoyed it. More than he thought he would.
Just enough people were there. No big events, just a nice home celebration with those he could trust.
With everyone now gone, all he could do was sit and contemplate the life he achieved.
He had friends he could count on. A wife that wormed her way into his life, and he let in, not regretting a single time this decision.
He felt... Happy.
"There is something on your mind." Absol spoke next to him, resting her head on his shoulder, her words reflecting those he told her at the beginning of the month.
"Not a lot, for once." He replied with a peaceful tone.
"That's a good thing," She muttered against him, kissing his cheek.
"it really is."

After a peaceful day essentially spent by resting under a tree and reading Icha Icha, Kakashi made his way home, PRECISELY near the end of the afternoon.
Why ? Because his wife PRECISELY indicated him he would be allowed to come back home around this time.
An odd instruction; but given today's date, he wasn't particularly surprised.
He was surprised however, when his friends, alongside Absol, greeted him with confetti the moment he opened the door of his very house.
"Surpriiiiiise!" The group cheered in unison.
The whole house was decorated for the occasion. A buffet (already touched by Naruto before Kakashi even made his way home...), a bunch of presents gathered, and, of course, the people he cherished.
During the party, Absol came up to him, with rare and genuine excitement in her eyes, "That's not too much, is it?"
She asked calmly, although filled with apprehension. To what Kakashi gently brought her closer, keeping her close.
"It's perfect." He replied, with a softness she usually only heard when it was just the two of them.
"I'm so glad... I know you don't like big gestures, but sometimes, it doesn't hurt to celebrate something special and-"
"I know, you don't need to justify yourself. Everything is amazing." He reassured her, knowing she tended to overexplain things when she'd panic. "Although maybe..."
"...Yes?"
"I wouldn't let Naruto near the buffet, next time. He almost ate the whole thing."
Her eyes almost lit up, "Wait. This means there will be a next time?"
"...Maybe." He grinned behind his mask, kissing her cheek lovingly.

Today is the birthday of the one and only, Kakashi Hatake.
I know he wouldn't necessarily enjoy celebrating it, which brought me to think about how and why I would make this month into something so special.
The simple reason is : I love him dearly. Even if he's fictional, he deserves so many things, I wouldn't be able to list them all in one go.
Ever since I discovered him, he wouldn't leave my mind, even today.
Whenever things got dark, he would bring light into my life.
Whenever I would lose myself in thoughts, he would be there, at the core of it all.
He means the world to me, and, even if I don't really know how to express myself for this kind of things, I want to return the favor, one way or another.
I love you, Kakashi. 🩶

A few days after talking with her husband, Absol had called their close relatives for a special meeting.
Something she labeled as "EXTRA IMPORTANT MISSION, KAKASHI'S BIRTHDAY", which was more than enough of an eyecatcher.
With the help of mainly Yamato, Guy, Naruto, Sakura (Sasuke helped too... in the shadows), the small squad reunited at a Café, ready to work on a surprise party, not too grand, but perfect for their favorite Icha Icha fanatic.
Even if Kakashi was perfectly aware Absol was making something for him, he had no idea how she would handle it, which was why she was adamant on handling this reunion like an executive assistant such as herself would.
Everyone being the closest to Kakashi, each had brought the perfect suggestions in order to make it into the best birthday of his life!
Even if Naruto was mostly talking about making a ramen cake... is this even a thing??

It was rare for Absol and Kakashi to go on dates together. They always preferred the calm of their home over making things big.
This does not mean they couldn't afford themselves romantic moments together however, the Icha Icha fanatic being surprisingly quite educated in the matter.
Yet, during their shared loving moment, Absol's silence was.... different than usual.
"Something has been troubling you lately." Kakashi spoke, not as a question but a statement.
"Is this dinner or a surprise therapy session ?" She retorted, a grin growing on her face... Yet not quite reaching her eyes.
"You're deflecting."
"Alright, alright... I was thinking."
"That's a dangerous start."
She glared at him from the rim of her glass. That one look giving him more than enough hints to let her finish without teasing her. Nodding in understanding, he let her spoke.
"I have been thinking about it for a little while, I just... Don't know what would be your stance in all of this."
"You can always tell me." He replied, his hand gently reaching out to hers. A silent way to comfort her without pressuring her.

The woman spoke about this month. How his birthday was right around the corner and... For once, she wanted to make something special for the occasion.
After so many uncelebrated birthdays on his end, maybe she could try finally making it into something he'd look forward to, instead of a simple reminder of his existence on this Earth.
He was not alone anymore, he was loved, he has people he could consider family. He had all the reasons to celebrate.

After a day of hardwork, Absol always needs a bit of isolation.
Away from people, from noises, from everything.
When she doesn’t go back home?
She goes to one of her favorite spots, near one of her village's lakes.
It's the smaller one; the least popular. Which is exactly why she prefers it over the others. No one around, just her, and the moon reflecting on clear water.
She's always alone with her thoughts. A way to decompress after a long mission.
Until she one day decided she was trusting Kakashi enough to bring him there with her. It then became their favorite spot whenever he would end up in Yoru.🌙💙

Konoha in its latest hours.
Two colleagues, friends maybe, indulged in spending what was left of their spare time together. Before Absol would return to her homeland.
Alone, just them, and the stars watching over.
But that night, Kashi did something bold. She doesn’t quite know herself what exactly led her to act this way.
Their last mission had been long... so perhaps was it due to the concern she felt after seeing Absol overworking herself constantly.
Maybe she just wanted some kind of souvenir before her friend would finally leave.
Whatever thought brought her to this moment, it didn’t matter.
The outcome was the same.
The woman gently held her Absol's face as a way to warn her, before finally pressing her lips onto hers.
A kiss shared between two friends.
Kashi could anticipate everything.
And despite that, she didn’t anticipate how this kiss would make her feel.
She didn’t anticipate the fact Absol would return the kiss, too.
