@lisacanny and @ninohinch are platforming one of Ireland’s oldest vocal traditions, lilting, a technique which is essentially singing a melody without lyrics: “Every traditional music culture has a version of it,” says Lisa.

Hot on the heels of @biirdofficial’s explosive success, Lisa and Niamh are both members of the self-proclaimed ‘Spice Girls of trad’, but are now making waves of their own as vocal harmony duo, @absolutelilt. It began when they posted a video of themselves lilting in harmony – something they don’t think had been done before – which unexpectedly went viral; their wordless sounds resonating with listeners, especially from Irish American and neurodivergent communities: “People have said ‘it helps them calm down,’” explains Lisa.

With the duo signed to @heavenlyrecordings, we’re less than a month away from their first headline show at London’s @stpancraslondon on 29 October.
