@lisacanny and @ninohinch are platforming one of Ireland’s oldest vocal traditions, lilting, a technique which is essentially singing a melody without lyrics: “Every traditional music culture has a version of it,” says Lisa.

Hot on the heels of @biirdofficial’s explosive success, Lisa and Niamh are both members of the self-proclaimed ‘Spice Girls of trad’, but are now making waves of their own as vocal harmony duo, @absolutelilt. It began when they posted a video of themselves lilting in harmony – something they don’t think had been done before – which unexpectedly went viral; their wordless sounds resonating with listeners, especially from Irish American and neurodivergent communities: “People have said ‘it helps them calm down,’” explains Lisa.

With the duo signed to @heavenlyrecordings, we’re less than a month away from their first headline show at London’s @stpancraslondon on 29 October.

When @singingbiologist and I heard this earworm by the lovely ladies of Absolute Lilt, we just knew we had to add two more parts!

We are not really performing at Faires any more, but twenty-five years later there's this lovely thing called the internet and we will definitely be singing here. 💜🦄💋

Anyone who wants to play minstrel's jam please tag us in whatever you want us to add harmonies to!
