Every day, during months of physical rehabilitation and walking aids, I sat at the piano and improvised. Sometimes just a melody, a bunch of chords, a more constructed musical line, or singing as one would in jazz.

Between the exterior (space and family) and the interior (voice and gaze), I oscillated from the macro to the micro, the intimate and the social.

Documentary but highly subjective, performative and intrinsically poetic, this film reflects states of loss, pain, exile, silence, solitude, isolation, resilience, patience, calmness and redemption.

I chose beauty and inspiration when I needed them the most.

It is a process. Ever evolving, unfolding. Transcending."

From Negentropy Nexus Online Residency → to the stage at Dixon Place, NYC

Curated by Hugo Paquete at Absonus Lab, Jack “Mia” Shamblin’s project first took shape within the experimental research environment of the Negentropy Nexus Online Residency.

From this speculative framework of negentropy, order emerging from chaos, grew THERAPYTHIA, a queer oracle of myth, memory, and transformation.

A multimedia ritual of voice, body, sound, and image, the work has evolved from research-in-progress to stage performance, now premiering at the HOT! Festival 2025.

A Queer oracle. A ritual of myth, memory, and personal transformation.

Born during the Omicron wave in Greece, this multimedia solo performance weaves together physical theater, storytelling, video projection, and sound to reclaim voice and power through performance.

Intertwining Infinities of Humans, Earth, and Sky by Dan Antoniu— Online Residency Negentropy Nexus organized by Absonus Lab.

Documentations of this innovative piece explores the hypnotic rhythms of animals, humans, and our brains, merging them with technology to create new perceptual environments.
This project was a negotiation between the two being specifically created to be on YouTube but still being a live show despite being in 3 different states.

With all the amazing engagement from everyone I did feel more connected to the audience. Thank you everyone who reached out personally to me after the show.

Again I can not express how grateful I am to have worked with such amazing collaborators Jixue Yang and Edward Cunneen. Also thank you to Hugo Paquete and Absonus labs for having this residency program that allowed me to develop new work on such a beautiful platform.

Metro-Cosmology by R. Gritto: A Highlight of the Online Residency Negentropy Nexus

Presented by Absonus Lab from October 30 to November 30, 2024,

"Metro-Cosmology" is an speculative art project by visual artist R. Gritto that explores the cultural richness of Paris. After living in Southeast Asia from 2014 to 2019, Gritto transformed the Paris metro into a mobile studio, capturing sounds and images from its environment, including 23 "genetic sounds" from locations like Gare de Lyon.

This project invites audiences to experience a sonic landscape that celebrates unity in diversity, intertwining various mythologies and beliefs. "Metro-Cosmology" challenges traditional boundaries between sound art, performance, and technology.

In collaboration with the Absonus Lab Creative Team and Hugo Paquete, Gritto examines urban acoustics and political sonic diaspora through an experimental AI operatid digital format, utilizing a theoretical framework that combines Lefebvre's spatial concepts with LaBelle's acoustic territories.

Accompanying a concept art by Hugo Paquete for the installation and stage design enhances the project, showcasing new aesthetic possibilities.

A composição desafia os ouvintes com uma estrutura musical que entrelaça sons estendidos numa dimensão de ouvido histórico, texturas complexas avant-garde contemporâneas, inspirando-se em referências históricas e mitológicas, como Haydn, canto gregoriano e as grandes óperas do século XIX. Desenvolve um jogo de mashup entre o legado clássico e uma contemporaneidade de fragmentos culturais.

Com uma duração de 13 minutos e 31 segundos, a obra gira em torno dos números "1", "0" e "6", simbolizando a sobreposição de caos e ordem num processo de transformação. O coro intensifica esta experiência, entoando os números acompanhados pelo som de uma bigorna, criando uma atmosfera envolvente e ritualística.

O projeto "Belphegor’s Prime" é acompanhado por uma concept art desenvolvida por Hugo Paquete e pela equipa criativa do Absonus Lab, concebida como um conceito de cenografia. Neste processo, a utilização de inteligência artificial assume um papel relacional fundamental na construção do stage design e da concept art, possibilitando a exploração de novas possibilidades estéticas e criativas.

Creation's Gap de Simona Dichio — Destaque da Residência Online Negentropy Nexus

The project titled: Creation's Gap

An acousmatic composition that explores the cyclical nature of life and the mystery of time through the perspective of an ancient oak tree in a dense forest. The narrative features two creatures whose interaction triggers a temporal transformation, leading the oak through rapid cycles of growth and decline. Inviting listeners to reflect on the interconnectedness of existence through an immersive sonic experience. The work employs a sophisticated interplay of serialism, utilizing an advanced Python algorithm to generate randomized numerical sequences that adhere to strict compositional parameters.

Simona Dichio is an Italian musician. She graduated from the Music High School "C. Poerio" in Foggia and is currently in the 1st Level Academic Triennium in Electronic Music at the "U. Giordano" Conservatory in Foggia. Under the mentorship of N. Monopoli, A. Cioffi, and D. De Simone, and with training in Music Technologies from professor Angelo Gualano, she is honing her skills for a future in contemporary music.

The post-techno operatic experience Negentropia: O Último Homem na Terra Devastada, directed by Hugo Paquete, was specially adapted for the Dínamo Gallery. This performance transported the audience to a dystopian, post-apocalyptic universe where electronic music, noise, and interaction came together to explore the final moments of existence—"the end of a man in a harsh electronic desert, a post-apocalyptic cloud where existence collapses into madness and suffocation."

Inspired by the works of Jani Christou, Negentropia reimagined and expanded on Anaparastasis I: The Baritone (1968) and Anaparastasis III: The Pianist (1968), elevating them to new heights of intensity. The performance integrated sound, visuals, and staging into a meta-dramaturgy, using improvisation and CO2 sensor readings to evoke a cathartic reflection on human and technological collapse.

This documentation captures the essence of the October 18th performance, held at 6:30 PM at ESAP Porto (Dínamo Gallery).
