Most shoes now arrive as a left and a right. That was not always the case.

For centuries, many European shoes were formed around a straight last: one solid shape that could serve either foot. The shoe began without a built in side. Wearing it helped finish the shape.

The last still comes first. Before leather, canvas or rubber meets a foot, someone has already made decisions about width, curve, volume and proportion.

A foot looks still. It is not.

Researchers scanned the dominant foot of 91 healthy adults under minimal load and full bodyweight. The mean change included lowering of the longitudinal arch, compression of plantar fat pads and extension of the big toe. The exact pattern varied between people. A minimally loaded shape was a poor predictor of how that foot would deform under load.

This colorway started it all for me. I have always gravitated toward neutral tones and this off white cream pulled me into designing my first shoe. It feels natural, effortless, and honest. The way footwear should be by @abstractchimp
