Still in the Riverdrunk hangover!
Our performance last Saturday was such a great point of departure for our long journey. We will continue to tell each other stories, continue to seek water, continue to create self sustained female worlds.

You got bars? Come share ‘em! 📝Kick off our Fall Liberation Series with artist alum Fei Li (@_fei.li_) at The LP Storefront on Friday, Sept 11, where we’ll ground in joy as rhythm, as a source of possibility, and the communal practice that brings us all closer to liberation.

🎤 Rap, Memory, and Collective Voice
🗓️Friday, Sept 11
⏰6:00-9:00 PM

For our first gathering this fall, the night opens with Jacqueline (@jacq__jypsy) leading a guided meditation on violin, with the 25th anniversary of 9/11 held in mind. With this intro, we invite you to settle in, reflect, and connect with one another.

JMacDonough (@guardup) then takes the history: how hip-hop responded to 9/11, and what questions those songs raised.
From there, the conversation opens, inviting the audience to share their own memories of that day and what came after.

At The LP, we make art, celebrate culture, and build community in everyday places—ongoing practices that are essential to our well-being. You’re invited to embody creativity at the The LP Storefront during our Liberation Series, where we connect with our neighbors, share nourishing meals, and embody liberation through artmaking. Here are the details:

🗓️Friday, Sept 11
⏰6:00-9:00 PM
📍The LP Storefront

Our theme for Fall Lib Series is “Joy is a Rhythm,” an embodied practice of collective memory and future-making through hip-hop music, dance, gameplay, and more. Our first event is “Rap, Memory & Collective Voice,” where neighbors can learn how New York’s hip-hop scene responded to 9/11, and practice writing new bars over beats together. The healing energies of music will fill the room, starting with a live violin performance by @jacq__jypsy and closing with a fire set by DJ Rello. 🔊

Led by artist partner Fei Li (@_fei.li_) at @accentedprojects and local artist JMacDonough (@guardup), this first gathering brings Bed-Stuy’s cultural traditions to life, starting with neighbors passing a verse.

LP Fam, we’re passing the mic to YOU! 🎤 We’re back with our Liberation Series for fall. Here’s where we’ll be:

🗓️ Friday, Sept 11
⏰ 6:00-9:00 PM
📍 The LP Storefront

Our city’s streets invite us into a collage of culture. Together, we:

✍🏾🗣️ Trade bars over beats in the subway
💈 Get a fresh braid-up with R&B blasting from our stoop
🀄 Gather at the mahjong table near our favorite game lounges

Our everyday spaces are made up of neighbors who build relationships across diasporas.

In the spirit of embracing diasporic cultures, we’re partnering with LP Alum Fei Li (@_fei.li_), a Chinese artist and Bed-Stuy resident at @accentedprojects, and native New York artists to bring you "Joy is a Rhythm!"

From workshopping rap bars to playing mahjong with live R&B performances filling the room, we’re centering Bed-Stuy's histories of Black art in collaboration with artists across diasporas. Join us at The LP Storefront to support local artists, embody joy, and celebrate culture as liberatory practices for us all.

Swipe to see our first Fall Lib Series gathering on Sept 11: "Rap, Memory, and Collective Voice," co-facilitated by local rapper and organizer JMacDonough (@guardup)!

NOTE: The LP will not host the Liberation Series on Sept 4. Our 2026 Liberation Series programs will start on Friday, Sept 11.

Dear community,
We invite you to join us for When They Have Their Own Historians: Shadows, Archives & The Afterlife of Memory, a one-time performance unfolding in the haunting beauty of the underground Industrial Chapel. A space is now in its final year of existence.

This evening gathers dancers, artists, and storytellers to ask how memory moves through bodies, how rituals can hold what archives forget, and how performance becomes a form of historical repair. Through movement, myth, and play, we attempt to reimagine who gets to speak, to act, and to be remembered.

We’re deeply grateful to the NYSCA Grant and NYFA fiscal sponsorship for making this work possible and allowing us to offer accessible tickets to everyone.

All proceeds go directly to the participating artists who have poured their time, labor, and spirit into this collaborative creation.

And if you wish to attend but are facing financial constraints, please don’t hesitate to reach out! We’ll make sure you can join us. Your presence, energy, and witnessing are part of what gives this work life.

📍 Location: Gymnopedie
1139 Bushwick Ave, Brooklyn
🕯️ Date & Time: November 6, 7-8:30 pm
🕓 Doors open 6:40 PM | Performance begins 7:00 PM
🎟️ Link in bio for tickets and details.

We hope you’ll be with us for this fleeting, unrepeatable evening!

Play is often regarded as a training ground for social roles. Children’s play also carries a memory of other possibilities, such as living alongside animals, speaking to invisible companions, and blurring the self and others. In the early mythic strata of culture, humans did not regard themselves as separate from animals; stories of geese, cats, birds, and cows were part of everyday ontology. Children’s games rehearse this porousness. Re-staging them as art is to recall a time when the boundaries of species, gender, and hierarchy were less fixed.
By reexploring nostalgia, our ritual emphasizes how longing doesn’t always orient toward the past but often toward a reimagined future. Nostalgia is movement: a smuggling route back into the present, carrying fragments of ritual hidden inside the pockets of memory.
