The first cohort of the Ashesi Student Incubator just wrapped with a Demo Day.

Twenty student teams spent five months moving from early-stage ideas to tested, venture-ready projects. Ten shortlisted teams pitched to a panel of judges and fellow founders, and three received a combined $10,000 in awards: Nexus, 1NRI, and Kayangana Eco-Palms.

"The strongest teams had tested assumptions, listened to feedback, made changes, and returned with a clearer understanding of what their work now requires." — Jessica Boifio '14, Director, Ashesi Center for Entrepreneurship

No business idea? No experience? Feeling behind? Samuel Darko, a Coach for the Ashesi Venture Incubator, answers the questions students are asking to help them identify their strengths and find meaningful ways to contribute to entrepreneurship. His take: start where you are. Begin with a problem, not a plan. And you don’t need to be the founder either.

“Small things compound and over time you find that you’re able to do a whole lot more.” - Samuel Darko

Knowing an industry helps you notice problems. It doesn't tell you which one deserves your attention first.

Emmanuel Adotey Acquaye '26, Kelvin Kekeli Ahiakpor '26 and Keli Koku Dey '26 started @baobabaudio with too many problems to choose from. Between them, they knew music as an artist, a producer and a DJ, and no shortage of ideas.

What took longer was deciding who to build for first.
"We wanted the whole music industry to use our product," Acquaye says. "But you can't start off covering the whole market. Solve problems for specific people."

That shift led them to Dey's own experience as a DJ, organizing a growing music library before events. The result: Sync X, a platform built to help DJs curate their libraries.

The "Find Your Build" Fireside Chat is in the books 🔥

Thank you to our guests Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, Francis Ato Brown and Kojo Akoto Boateng for an honest, engaging conversation on how they spot problems worth solving in their fields. And to everyone who packed the room to listen, the lesson was clear: finding your build is all about exploring and discovering where you can make meaningful contributions anywhere. Stay tuned for more.

On their first Saturday at Ashesi, the Class of 2030 Cohort A were already building, pitching, and finding their people. 🎉
The Kickoff Block Party brought new students together around two activities. In Sell the Ordinary, teams produced a video commercial for a product or location on campus, then adapted and pitched it live when the rules changed. In the Runway Challenge, they built a bridge as a team using resources they had to buy, bid, or trade to acquire.

Through these activities, they learned to build efficiently, keep their customers in mind, and adapt when conditions shifted—skills essential for entrepreneurial leaders.

How did a simple guessing game turn into an engaging session that tuned into a lesson on entrepreneurship?

Last week, we welcomed the Class of 2030 Cohort A and gave them a challenge: design the perfect Saturday for a peer, without asking a single question first.

Then we let them ask. And everything changed.

The plans shifted. The assumptions fell away. And the lesson landed: building without understanding who you are building for is just guessing.

Every venture starts with an assumption about who you are building for. The best founders learn to question that assumption early.

Once again, to the class of 2030, welcome to entrepreneurship at Ashesi.

A great product is not enough.

Founders can become focused on what they are building before fully testing whether the market will adopt it, pay for it, and keep coming back.

An investment banking professional and startup advisor with 15 years of experience working with ventures, Hannah Quashie works with founders in the Ashesi Venture Incubator to create measurable value for customers.

If your venture has traction and you are ready to deliver value for the market, and build strong distribution channels, join Cohort 8 of the Ashesi Venture Incubator.

The bigger your audience gets, the less you can afford to rely on instinct alone.

Sincerely Accra had spent years building an audience while podcasting itself was changing around them. Audio became video. Platforms shifted. The way people discovered and engaged with content evolved.

Through the Ashesi Venture Incubator, Joseph Nti and his team gathered data on who was listening, where they were listening from and how they engaged with the podcast. That gave them stronger evidence to make decisions about the audience they were building for.

For Joseph, creative work is still a business, and the better you understand your market, the better you can decide what to build, change and invest in next.

If your venture already has an audience, customers, users or clear demand, but the next level requires sharper decisions about where to focus and what to build, join Cohort 8 of the Ashesi Venture Incubator.

Bring the traction. Come ready to build from what the market is telling you.

Growth gets expensive when you do not understand the economics behind it.

Lakefarm initially thought funding for land and ponds would be its biggest constraint. As the business grew, feed costs, fingerling supply and the economics of expansion became just as important.

Through the Ashesi Venture Incubator, Jesse Adjetey and his team improved their record keeping systems and began using unit economics to make decisions based on data, not assumptions.

Lakefarm now produces its own organic feed, reducing the cost of a bag from about GHS300-400 to roughly GHS100. The team also established its own hatchery and, with AVI funding, expanded the farm’s capacity from 20,000 to 100,000 fish.

Growth is not just doing more. It is knowing what the numbers support, where to invest, and when the business is ready to expand.

If your venture has traction and the next level will require stronger economics and sharper operating decisions, join Cohort 8 of the Ashesi Venture Incubator.

Bring the traction. Come ready to build for growth.
