The old Chicago & Northwestern coaling tower at Clyman Junction, north of Watertown, WI. It straddles the UP mainline between Milwaukee and the Twin Cities. I remember seeing it as a kid. I heard it will be torn down next year so thought I should swing by and see it one more time. by @achy_sling

Danny Diamond (1st) @fiddlediamond
Born in Belfast into a family with deep roots in traditional music, fiddle player Danny Diamond spent his formative years learning, playing and performing at festivals and sessions around Ireland. Later, he was deeply involved in the Dublin folk music scene as a performer (Slow Moving Clouds; Mórga), archivist (with ITMA, the Irish Traditional Music Archive) and sound engineer (Lankum). In recent years Danny has toured internationally, creating and performing collaborative projects with writers, dancers and visual artists, notably including the award-winning Swan Lake/Loch na hEala with Ireland-based contemporary dance company Teaċ Daṁsa. Currently he performs with St. Paul-based musician and singer Brian Miller in the duo Northern Shores and tours with original Riverdance lead vocalist Katie McMahon. His new solo project, Senior Infants, combines traditional melodies on fiddle and guitar with ambient electronic textures. Danny also teaches with the Center for Irish Music in St Paul, Minnesota and writes software for music libraries & archives.

Adam Kiesling’s favorite thing to do is play his guitar and back up a good old-time fiddler. He got his start playing bass as a teenager in south-eastern Wisconsin and ended up playing more guitar after moving to the Twin Cities in the early 90s, where he fell down the rabbit hole of flatpicked fiddle tunes à la Norman Blake and the country blues of Mississippi John Hurt. Adam started playing old-time string band music around 2000 and spent some time with the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers and the Mill City Grinders, and also had a stint as the bass player for Pert Near Sandstone from 2010 to 2014. In addition to performing as a solo artist, Adam’s main musical output has been with Corpse Reviver, a Minneapolis-based trio who focuses on the music found on Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music. His latest solo recording, Down The River I Go, was released in September of 2023.

I’ve been meaning to snap a pic for years. Cutting my musical teeth on the West Bank 30 years ago included seeing Dave Ray or Spider John playing some solo sets at the Viking Bar, or catching Koerner, Ray & Glover for some reunion shows at the Cedar or down at First Ave. I’d offer to carry Dave’s amp out to his car after his sets at the Viking; he somehow always seemed to snag the meter on Riverside right outside the door. by @achy_sling
