8/22/26 It was quite the drive from Manchester down to London Town, and to New River Studios. I took the M6 toll road and avoided a ton of traffic. It was largely cruising until we hit the big smoke, but even then, the congestion wasn’t bad. Always lovely to drive through London, one of my favorite cities in the whole world. Growing up so close, I think we all took for granted what a wonderfully diverse and cosmopolitan place this city is. We arrived to New River studio on time at about 4pm and all the lads from action beat were already there. I took a photo of them on my 35mm, and then we set up the gear for a sound check. Ellis has done our sound three years running, so it was just setting up the gear and he got all the levels right. As always, carney and I weren’t ‘loud’ enough for master and commander, Lewis Webb, but the decibel reader on the watch told another story. I then had to get various other acts ready for sound check, and with 7 bands on the bill it was quite hectic and overwhelming, but Ellis being a consummate professional, he got on with it no bother! Bianca opened the set as Ala Muerte, with a 90s style grunge sound, with phasers, loops, and various vocal harmonies creating a dread like atmosphere. Next up was Sapphire Goss projecting her video work, coupled with John Doran’s spoken word regarding the ancient history of Cornwall over various samples and modular sounds. I thought it was brilliant. Circuit Breaker went on next, as Peter had to catch an early train home. Their set consists of guitar, vocal and modular sounds, and it’s super weirdo music. Very long form, and requires a certain level of patience and buy in to truly appreciate. They’re one of my favorite bands in the whole world, and Pete told me, “thanks, you always give us the opportunities over the years and a true supporter”. I said, “I love the weirdo sounds, love music that people can’t get and understand”. Maybe that’s a compliment?! by @action_beat

Please help out this struggling musician to get rid of the remaining t shirts! I have 23 left and don’t want to bring any back to NYC! $20 includes postage in the UK, plus a free digital download of our last record, the world is fucked but I feel fine! Link is attached to our main page, but you can also just search ‘action beat - Bandcamp’ - I appreciate the support!
