POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The restrictions of my self-tape set-up have been a pebble in my shoe for a while now, so I decided it was time to upgrade. I bought a couple of backdrops from @katebackdropuk and I think they are awesome (this isn’t a sponsored post btw).

As well as a plain, light backdrop I saw a lovely abstract backdrop that @willaustinspace was using at @self_tape_uk and decided to get one like it, but massive - just because I think it looks great on camera.

The size of these backdrops gives me much more freedom of movement in my self-tapes.

Will new backdrops alone book me more roles?

Probably not, but this removes some frustration about my set-up, and anything that gives you an edge or more confidence is a good thing.

Self-taping away from home can be a challenge - finding a plain background, a brightly illuminated place to film - you just have to work with what you’ve got!

A portable ring-light is a worthy investment, especially when your accommodation doesn’t lend itself to a well-lit self-tape.

Don’t even ask about the full body shot!😂

From self-tape to screen!

Sometimes it’s worth getting out of your studio and shooting your self-tape in a real location. You never know whether a casting director will like it or think it’s a gimmick, so you have to go with your gut.

For this one there were a bunch of actions - reacting to a radio call, urgently starting the car - and it just felt better to actually do them for real than mime them uncomfortably.

Plus the environment would immediately sell the story in the scene.

And this time - it worked out!

I have two places available from April on the Action for Actors program. Industry insights, mindset and tangible, daily actions that keep you moving forwards.

Drop me a line to have a call about your specific needs.

A few actor friends have asked about my self-tape set up so I thought I would share it with you all.

The key takeaways:

- You don’t need a lot of £££ kit
- Casting directors just want to see you
- the full-body shot is annoying for everyone😂

I was absolutely thrilled to see my client Penelope Saunders’ fantastic performance as Bobbie in The Railway Children last night.

@combined_actors_of_cambridge and director Sean Baker (not the Anora one) have brought a wonderful story to the @adctheatre - with fantastic lighting and sound which brings the audience right into the centre of the action.

But of course the performances are everything, and the cast bring their characters to life beautifully.

If you’re in Cambridge, check this out while you can!

I’ve just spent 8 weeks coaching the extraordinary @lolacwolff and what an 8 weeks it’s been!

Lola is the best kind of client - ambitious, driven, receptive to ideas and completely open with everyone she interacts with. Her energy is infectious - and the industry is starting to find out. She is a #gamechanger

We’ve covered enormous ground and unlocked so many opportunities that 8 weeks feels like the blink of an eye, but also like a long-term collaboration that’s been huge for both us.

It’s been an honour and a privilege to be part of Lola’s journey - I can’t wait to see where it takes her (I kind of know already, but seeing it will be amazing)!

Self-Tape Sunday!

Some fun scenes to do today, and an example of going with your gut.

You don’t always have to shoot against a plain background - if it feels right to shoot something for real, go for it!

Today I did a bit of both.

I have opened up three places in my @actionforactorscoaching program, with immediate starts available.

My coaching focuses heavily on mindset and action, building daily routines that will move you consistently towards your goals.

Action for Actors has three options:

- Undiscovered Actor: An 8-week program which covers all of the basic steps for starting or progressing your acting career

- Emerging Actor: An 8-week tailored program which cherry picks the modules that offer the most value for you, supplemented with personal development based on exactly where you are on your journey as a working actor

- Established Actor: for more experienced actors, unpacking your mindset and unlocking your potential to move you to the next level of your career.

DM me if you are ready to take your next leap forwards and achieve your acting ambitions!

Let’s talk about failure!!

Not everything will work out the way you want. What’s important is that you learn from every outcome and NEVER GIVE UP!

Persistence will beat talent every time, so even if things don’t go your way, pick yourself up and keep going!

2025 is underway!!!

Last year was tough for many people in the entertainment industry and what happens to the industry in 2025 is beyond our control. But…

…we can control how we show up, how we instil daily habits and routines which move us towards out goals.

So:

- What are you doing DAILY to get where you want to be?
- How are you developing your mindset to maximise opportunities when they arise, and truly believe that you deserve them (you do!)
- What value are you bringing to every interaction you have with the industry?

My coaching clients ALL booked work last year. It’s out there to be taken if you approach it right.

I wish you all a fabulous 2025! ❤️❤️
