Honoured to receive the @wadeasia 2026.

This year’s recognition feels especially meaningful after being selected among WADE Asia’s Young Women Architects in 2025. To return this year and receive the award is a moment I am deeply grateful for.

The past year has been one of growth, learning and many new challenges. Every project, client conversation, site visit and difficult decision has continued to shape the way I think—not just as an architect, but also as someone building a practice.

This award is a beautiful moment to pause and acknowledge that journey.

A heartfelt thank you to WADE Asia for this honour and for creating a platform that continues to recognise and celebrate women in architecture.

Grateful to the entire AD Studio9 team, our clients and everyone who has been part of this journey. Every project and every person has contributed to the work that has brought us here.

Still learning. Still growing. And deeply grateful for this recognition.

Architecture is rarely about just the building.

It is about understanding the site, responding to its context, working through constraints, questioning decisions, and finding better ways to make spaces work.

And behind every finished project are hundreds of conversations, revisions, drawings, site visits, calculations, and, of course, the occasional “one last change.”

This World Architecture Day, we celebrate the process as much as the architecture — the people, ideas, systems and decisions that shape the spaces we live and work in.

Happy World Architecture Day from AD Studio9.

If the circular seating is defined by its connection to the ground, the rectangular seater takes the opposite approach — deliberately creating a separation between furniture and floor.

The seat is lifted above the ground, leaving a continuous gap beneath it. This negative space changes the perception of the otherwise solid rectangular volume, making it appear lighter and giving the furniture a floating quality.

The geometry is intentionally restrained, allowing proportion, shadow and the space beneath the seat to become part of the detailing. Rather than treating the gap as a structural necessity, it becomes a visual device that gives the furniture its character.

At Kara, where every piece is custom made and conceived as part of the material story, these seemingly simple decisions become important architectural details.

At Kara, furniture is conceived as an extension of the architecture rather than as an object placed within it.

The circular seating is designed as a grounded, continuous form, sitting directly on the floor with no conventional void beneath the seat. This gives the furniture a sense of weight and permanence, while the curved geometry introduces a softer counterpoint to the more orthogonal language of the showroom.

The detailing is deliberately resolved at the scale of the furniture. Fine beading defines the edges, while electrical points are integrated into the seating itself, ensuring that functional requirements become part of the design rather than visual interruptions.

Every piece of furniture at Kara is custom designed to demonstrate material, craft and detailing — making the furniture itself a live exhibit within the showroom.

CENTRAL SEATER | KARA

At the centre of Kara, furniture takes on a role beyond simply providing a place to sit.

The circular central element is designed to function simultaneously as a seater and a display unit, allowing one piece to contribute to both the programme and the spatial composition. Its geometry connects back to the recurring circular language within the project — from the concentric Rosso marble inlays to the curves that punctuate the otherwise restrained interior.

Its central placement gives the element a natural visual presence, while its dual function allows the furniture to work as part of the circulation and display experience.

This reflects a larger idea behind Kara: every piece of furniture is custom designed as a live demonstration of material, craft and function — furniture that participates in the architecture rather than simply filling it.

The design brings veneer, timber, stone and terracotta into a restrained material vocabulary, allowing their individual qualities to remain legible while contributing to a cohesive interior. Rather than introducing layers of finishes, the richness of the space comes from how a considered palette is carried across architectural surfaces, display systems, furniture and detailing.

The display elements are integrated into this language, allowing shelving and joinery to read as extensions of the architecture rather than independent retail fixtures. This continuity was central to the project — the same materials that form the identity of KARA’s offering become the surfaces, planes and details that shape the showroom itself.

Across the interior, changes in grain, texture, depth and reflectivity create subtle shifts within an otherwise restrained palette. The darker surfaces establish visual depth, while the warmer timber and terracotta elements bring contrast and tactility to the composition.

At this scale, material becomes more than a finish. It defines proportion, establishes hierarchy and influences how the space is perceived as one moves through it.

The intention was to create a full-scale material experience — one where a veneer or timber finish can be understood not as an isolated sample, but as part of a larger architectural language.

We’re grateful to @elledecorindia for featuring KARA and for recognising the material and architectural thinking behind the project.

KARA is a material-led showroom conceived to present veneer, timber, stone and finishes not simply as products, but as part of a larger architectural experience. The project uses light, volume and landscape to create the setting in which these materials can be experienced at scale.

At the heart of the showroom, an oval skylight punctures the roof plane, bringing natural light into the depth of the building and establishing a strong vertical connection within the double-height volume. Rather than treating the skylight as a purely functional opening, its geometry is carried into a circular coffer, giving the ceiling a defined architectural expression while allowing the light to become part of the composition.

The grove positioned directly beneath it reinforces this relationship. Its placement creates a visual axis between the sky and the interior, introducing an organic layer against the precise geometry of the architecture. As daylight shifts through the day, it moves across the surrounding surfaces, revealing the varying textures, grains and tonalities of the material palette.

With the display programme arranged around this volume, the skylight and grove become a moment of pause within the showroom — a space where movement gives way to observation and the materials can be read through changing light and perspective.

The intent was to make daylight an active part of the showroom experience, allowing the architecture to continually alter the way its materials are perceived.

We’re grateful to @elledecorindia for featuring KARA and for giving the project a platform to communicate the architectural thinking behind it.

At KARA, the laminate library is designed as an architectural experience in itself. Rather than treating the collection as a catalogue of samples, the shelving creates a continuous field through which colour, texture and finish are revealed gradually—allowing the sheer range of materials to become part of the spatial experience.

The depth and rhythm of the shelves bring order to an otherwise expansive collection, while the darker setting creates a deliberate backdrop against which every laminate can be seen with greater clarity. Repetition gives the display its rhythm; variation within the collection gives it character. Together, the shelving and materials create a space that feels less like a conventional product display and more like an immersive library of surfaces.

It is a simple shift in the way materials are presented: the shelving does not compete with the collection, but gives it structure, depth and presence—allowing every finish to be discovered as part of a larger architectural composition.

The reception floor at Kara introduces a radial geometry into an otherwise orthogonal architectural composition.

Concentric bands of Rosso marble establish a visual centre around the seating, giving the waiting area a defined spatial footprint without relying on walls or changes in level. The geometry directs movement and attention towards the centre while simultaneously creating a strong relationship between the floor plane and the furniture placed above it.

The darker marble also brings a deliberate shift in the material palette at the point of arrival. Against the larger neutral surfaces of the reception, the floor becomes an architectural datum that anchors the furniture, establishes scale and gives the double height volume a more intimate point of occupation.

The threshold between the reception and the showroom was designed as a layered architectural moment rather than a conventional partition.

The intervention allows the reception to retain its visual connection with the larger display hall, while controlling how the interior is revealed from the point of arrival. This creates depth within the plan, with the partition working simultaneously as a spatial divider, a frame and a backdrop to the reception.

The composition also helps break down the scale of the larger volume. Solid and open elements are balanced to create changing sightlines as one moves through the space, allowing the material displays beyond to become part of the visual field without exposing the entire showroom at once.
