Would you choose an orange kitchen? 🧡

In this Venusian concept, orange lower cabinets and a statement island bring warmth and personality. White upper cabinets and pale surfaces balance the colour, keeping the space bright.

A kitchen can be practical and still feel like you.

Save this palette for your kitchen inspiration—and tell us: orange, yes or no?

Terracotta Facades, Crown Winner: Apoorva Lekha

AD Studio 9 is a Bengaluru based architecture and interior design practice, working under the philosophy Biophilic Design, Built to Last. Led by Principal Architect Apoorva Lekha, the studio designs spaces that bring nature and real human comfort into everyday environments, very often through simple, passive means. Its shortlisted project, Akshara Vinyasa, is the studio's own workspace, where a south facing wall was turned into a living terracotta facade that cools the building through evaporation and lets it run without air conditioning through peak Bengaluru summer

HOME TOUR | 1500 SQFT | BENGALURU
You spend years watching Amma make a home comfortable for everyone. Then comes the chance to do the same for her.

In Sundar and Lakshmi’s home, that care lives in the everyday details. Her familiar teak bed came with her. The kitchen was planned around how she cooks. There’s a pooja space she loves, and a seat by the window where she reads and keeps an eye out for them coming home.

For Amma, moving in with her son and daughter in-law meant leaving a home she had known for nearly 30 years.

She joined Sundar and Lakshmi around the pandemic. Where they designed their Bangalore apartment to recreate the familiarity of their childhood home so this new chapter would feel connected to the life she knew.

HOME TOUR | 3.5BHK | BENGALURU
When you leave the home you grew up in, what do you try to recreate - the way it looked, or the way you lived?

For Sundar and Lakshmi, designing their 1,500 sq ft Bangalore apartment meant revisiting a childhood spent around a courtyard and a backyard filled with trees. With Amma now living with them, that sense of familiarity became part of the brief.

Banana-leaf greens and earthy wood tones recall those surroundings. Two 80-year-old pillars frame the living room, while a neem-wood swing opens towards both the pooja and the television—connecting daily rituals with evenings spent unwinding.

The question running through this home is one many families face: how do you move into a new space without leaving your sense of home behind?

The challenge with traditional interiors is knowing how much to carry into a modern apartment.

In Sundar and Lakshmi’s 1,500 sq ft Bangalore home, two 80-year-old wooden pillars give the living room its identity. Around them, cane furniture, banana-leaf greens and earthy upholstery create a palette that continues into the dining area.

But each room changes the balance. The master bedroom moves towards lighter oak and cane; Amma’s room pairs her familiar teak furniture with quieter finishes. In the kitchen, burgundy and beige introduce a different mood altogether.

That’s what makes this home interesting: a shared design language, with enough variation for every room to feel individual.

Swipe through a home that offers plenty to borrow, especially if you love traditional Indian interiors but want room for your own interpretation.
