Stumbling upon raw, sometimes overwhelming, emotions in the middle of raving or partying has always been an important part of the experience for me. Being thrown into such an over the top environment forces me to be extremely present, which after a little while, can bring a lot of feelings to the surface. This space, this moment is where I am able to process a lot of my life, learn about myself, and find a lot of peace.

Enter “Crying at the Rave”. I think this song one of my best expressions of what I’ve been trying to capture with this project. It’s heartbreaking hedonism born out of experimentation and self expression.

Because it went through so many versions, I thought it might be interesting to share a bit of my process and how I landed on the final. Swipe the slides for a little audio preview and, if you’re a nerd like me, check out the rest of the caption for the inside scoop.

2.0 - Once I heard the vocal, I knew I had to make something with it. I looped it in Ableton and sent the clock to my drum machine for a hardware jam. This version, and a lot of the final track, were made from sampling and resampling this initial jam (even the bass is from the drum machine).

3.1 - Tried to find new elements to compliment the initial jam. Notice the chords that didn’t make their way into the final. I actually really like the breakdown here, might need to steal this idea for another track.

5.0 - I liked the vocal effect from the previous versions but wanted to see if I could make it more interesting.

6.0 - First attempt chopping the vocals into more of a melody. Not quite right.

6.66 - After getting frustrated, I grabbed the TD-3 and tried this acid line over top. While cool, I kind of felt like I was repeating myself a bit.

7.1 - Added more vocals which gave the song a desperately needed middle section.

8.1 - Finally found the right vocal chops to follow the hook. Ditched a lot of the previous additions and stripped back the track down to its core elements.

Final - Got some help on the mix and master curtesy of @schroedsdotcom who patiently went back and forth with me to land on what I think is an awesome sounding final.

There’s no shortage of conversations around AI right now. Some think it’ll bring a new era of technological progress, while others fear the potential negatives far outweigh the positives. The creative community at large has responded with strong pushback, fear and resistance against the reduction of humanity in the arts.

Feeling the love after my birthday weekend and ready to jump into the world of my new track, “Will It All Be Worth It?”. I sent this demo to @galleryrecs on a whim and much to my delight they decided to scoop it up. I discovered the label through their releases with @pgprettygrl and @human_movement (obviously big fan of both) and am so proud to have landed a track with such a great crew.

If you’d like to help this one cut through the noise, you can pre-save the track using the link in my you know where.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, the answer is YES, it will all be worth it!

33! Reflecting on my thirties so far, I feel they have been much too serious. This year, I’ll be seeking out frivolity, embracing cringe, and eschewing responsibility.

Also, I am excited to announce that my track, “Will It All Be Worth It?” will be coming out next week on @galleryrecs. More details to come but, if you want to do something cute for me (it’s my birthday!), you can pre-save it with the link in my bio.

✨Joluca Update ✨

For almost 10 years, Joluca has been the ultimate collab. From humble beginnings in the Night Vision studio to releasing over 80 originals and remixes, and festival performances across the continent, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built together.

Looking to the future, we’ve been noodling, and have decided to make a change, namely, this two-man portmanteau will now be a one-man show. For the time being, Dave will be taking the reins on all things Joluca while Adam step back to focus on his solo project, @adam.after.hours

Don’t worry, it’s not dramatic and we’re very much still bruvs – we are just ready for a switch up. As far as Joluca goes, assume that you’ll be getting a double dose of Dave on stage, in the studio, and here on socials.

Thanks for all the love over the years, we love you right back. ♥️

Ready for 7” of Real Pleasure? My new remix is available now on limited edition, clear vinyl.

The original, written and produced by my dear friend Kevin Claxton and sung by Natalie Sawicki is one of my favorite songs I’ve known somebody in my personal life to make. Inspired by a group hug on a living room dance floor, it’s a perfectly saccharine song of tender, loving friendship. Obviously, right up my alley.

The remix was inspired heavily by the 00s filter house and french touch bender I was on at the time and I am really proud of it. It also genuinely makes me smile every time I listen.

If you’d like to get in on the fun, the record is available now on the @real.pleasure.music Bandcamp page.

This little hedgehog is APPROVED! If you’ve interacted with me this year, you’ll have probably been aware that I have been going through a really difficult period in my life. It’s hard to convey, but there is a very strange heaviness that follows you around while going through the motions needed to get a visa, green card, secure legal status, etc. Waiting for permission to continue living your life is a weird thing. And then seemingly at your lowest moment, you get an email that hits you like lightning bolt. And then you cry, a lot. Or at least, that’s how it was for me.

It’s going to take a while to set in but I can already feel myself feeling lighter. I am so so so grateful for the support of my community (and especially my wife @erinsanders) for coming together to help me get through this process. Also a big thank you to @kktp_law for helping me navigate this process and continue my immigration journey.

And yes, this is my first post in I don’t even know how long. Going to figure out how to begin sharing my musical life in a fun way (for you and for me) as I plan my next steps for this project. So far I have exactly 2 “big things coming” so, stay tuned.

In case you missed it, my first remix as Adam After Hours is out now! As soon as @htetty sent me the acapella, I knew I wanted to do something with it. I made the original demo by rearranging the vocals into a new hook and sequencing a beat on my @ericasynths Perkons. The breakdown came first and, as soon as I nailed the first chord with the first lyrics, I knew it was something special. I must’ve written the M1 Organ line in a fugue state because it just showed up at some point and my favorite part of the track (the switch up in the break) was born.

Finishing the remix proved a little bit tough as I listened to the demo about 200 times (Rick Rubin might be right about not doing so) so I did what I always do. Push things too far, overproduce it, make it boring, and… come back to the original demo and just finish it.

Will I ever learn? No.

Did it turn out? 🦔 by @adamjweimann
