The feeling of riding a bike for me can only be described as scratching an itch. With a lack of hours on the bike lately that itch has been unbearable at times. It reminds me how much I live for the bike. But a few sessions in the pool and gym a week does the job. It’s also part of the recovery. Taurus is the dream but I’m prepared for it not to happen this year as well. Let’s see. by @adampalin

My first DNS. This would be the setup I’d be riding for Alps Divide this weekend. Regretfully I’m having to withdraw due to injury. A tendon issue which hasn’t recovered in the time for the race. I’m now focused on getting strong for Taurus in October.

After Further Elements 2024 my Quirk sat unloved but after a fresh respray by @stout_cycles it’s finally back with some small tweaks to the colour. Choosing to go with gold logos.

Finding some speed in the tarmac has been fun but Bristol roads are more gravel friendly 😅

Silk Road Mountain Race starts tomorrow and this year I’ll have the pleasure of dotwatching all of the incredible souls taking on this adventure.

It brings back many memories from last year including this moment when we reached the summit of the main hike a bike at 4000m. Sharing it with @marxistcyclist .

It’s a stacked field this year both in male and female categories. Good luck and have the best experience. Sleep and fuelling will be key in a race where both are a luxury.

Dorset Divide 🥈- what a special one this was. Spent the whole race toe to toe with George for it to go down to the final sprint. Even though it wasn’t meant to be this time the stories last much longer. A lot of fun riding with friends.

@harrywhiles is doing special things with this event. Thanks for inviting us down. More again next year maybe.

FIRST RIDERS ARE HOME!

After battling wheel to wheel from the very start of the Dorset Divide, George and Adam spent the entire night and into the morning trying to shake each other off. Neither rider could make the decisive break, setting up an incredible finish.

It all came down to the final climb up Portland. @ge.orge emptied the tank with one last all-out effort, sprinting to take First Rider Home. @adampalin crossed the line just 2 minutes later after an epic ride of his own. George Finished in 28 hours 47minutes

What a battle between them. Massive congratulations to both riders on an unforgettable ride from start to finish.

Pyrenees - Cauterets ➡️ Gavarnie

After watching the TDF pass through Lourdes we headed up into the mountains to escape the heat and switch off for a few days.

It was Ryan’s first lesson in Type 2 fun 🤩. I have already heard the words ‘I miss the mountains’. Love that!

Nutrition and Hydration for the Old Chalk Way FKT.

Being a 27-28 hour effort and choosing to do this at a time when temperatures are hovering 25-35 degrees it meant I needed to have a serious plan for fuelling and staying hydrated. I carried @styrkr.uk gels, powder and electrolytes for the entire duration and topped up along the way with snacks.

I struggled with eating from Reading due to the constant bumpy terrain and regular route cues. However happy to still avg 82grams/hr and 540ml/hr.

I have some work to do to manage heat while riding and keeping my body cool but this taught me a lot. Next up will be Dorset Divide at the end of July.

Old Chalk Way New FKT of 27:44:52 🏆.

Starting in Lyme Regis this route crosses the country finishing in Holme on Sea in Norfolk. 575km of chalky tracks and champagne gravel. Although plenty of rough stuff along the way. This was my second go at the route after unfortunately stopping 300km in a week earlier. With cooler temps forecasted it was the perfect window to try again. Super chuffed to take an hour off the previous record.
