Graduated this past weekend with my Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy! I’m officially Dr. Warnke!

So grateful for my time at CU Boulder. Thank you to my committee members, Sterling Tanner, Mike Dunn, Gary Lewis, and Keith Waters, for all of their help throughout my degree. A special thank you to the head of my committee, my trumpet teacher and mentor Ryan Gardner, for everything he’s done for me these past three years. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.

Another huge thank you to all of the friends I’ve made during my time at CU - so many great memories, laughs, and moments I’ll never forget. Thank you to my parents, Mark and Robin Warnke, for constantly supporting me in everything I do. The countless lessons, rehearsals, and festivals you drove me to have led me here, and I can never thank you enough for that.

And to my amazing wife Lauren - thank you for your support and your willingness to go on this crazy journey with me. Moving around the country, constantly adapting, and dealing with me hasn’t been easy. I’m so grateful for you.

Glad to be done with school… well, I guess I’ll still be in school, just on the other side of things now. Looking forward to putting all these degrees into action at Western Carolina University this fall!

I am excited to share that I have accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Western Carolina University!

This is a bittersweet transition, as Lauren and I will miss Colorado very much. These past three years have been incredibly meaningful, filled with great memories and lasting friendships. We are truly going to miss it here. At the same time, we are very excited for our next adventure as we trade the Rocky Mountains for the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina later this summer.

I am deeply grateful to the teachers and mentors who have helped me reach this point: Ryan Gardner, Michael Dobrinski, Tom Booth, Justin Bartels, Michael Sachs, Michael Miller, Matthew Ernst, Brent Turney, and so many others. Thank you for your guidance, support, and belief in me. I hope to have the same impact on my students that you have had on me.

I’m honored to join the outstanding faculty at WCU and to continue building on the strong studio that Brad Ulrich has developed over his career. He has truly set me up for success, and I could not be more appreciative. I have big shoes to fill, and I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity.

Go Cats!
