Read caption ⬇️⬇️ 1. Ask what I need- don’t assume. It’s super easy to see an athlete and automatically assume what they can and can’t do. I always say the best way to start with a new athlete is to humble yourself and ask THEM the questions. Don’t assume the answers. 2. Coach the athlete- not the disability. The default should be this person can train hard. Not train hard for someone with one leg. Keep the standards, keep the intensity, keep it safe. Just like any other athlete. 3. Adaptive doesn’t mean easy- the workouts are still brutal. If you coach your athlete well, they will have the same stimulus as the rest of the class. They did not do an easier workout. They adapted where necessary and reached the stimulus. Adapting is not scaling! 4. Accessibility is equipment, not charity. This is the start. Is your gym accessible? Can wheelchairs, knee scooters, crutches, blind- anyone be able to navigate through your gym safely? Do you have any type of adaptive equipment for someone who might need it? (Mono rope for upper extremity, split multi ropes for seated, hooks on the ski erg, etc). 5. Inclusion makes every member better. This includes coaches. Coaches are learning how to legitimately understand movement when building an inclusive environment. Members are learning that there really aren’t many excuses. Overall, inclusion is making the gym better. These are all things that we dive deeper into with the Adaptive Athlete Experience. If you are interested in this for your gym, coaches, members, etc- message us today! by @adaptiveathleteexperience
The AAE x @crossfitvirtuosity These coaches came ready to learn. One big thing that we mentioned a couple times was how important it is to make sure that members know they can stay in the gym through injury. That’s what coaches are there for- to help people stay in the gym no matter what. These coaches are ready for that! If you’re interested in the AAE for your gym, coaches, and members- message us today! by @adaptiveathleteexperience
ADAPTIVE ATHLETICS: ADVICE FROM THE EXPERTS 🎓 A big thank you to @adaptiveelina and @delaney.hoppy who led our Adaptive Athlete Experience seminar! Their training tips helped our coaches get a first-hand perspective and how they can adapt workouts for athletes of all abilities. In this reel, they share their top advice for: 👉 Coaches new to adaptive athletics 👉 Athletes new to adaptive athletics by @adaptiveathleteexperience
The AAE x @allegro.fit.wi These coaches were incredible to work with. They took their Sunday to learn more about adaptive/inclusive fitness. One thing we discussed at the end was “the first step” when working with an adaptive athlete. We agreed that it comes down to humility, an open heart, and an open mind to continue to learn. If you’re looking for your coaches to have the knowledge and tools to work with anyone who walks through your door, this seminar is for you! Message us today! 📸: @delaney.hoppy by @adaptiveathleteexperience
The AAE seminar X @crossfitarrow X @starrfitwi We had two gyms in one attend this AAE seminar. The amount of care, the amount of open mindedness, and openness to learn new things and adapt was incredible. Will forever be grateful for those who care. These folks are ready to adapt in the gym and help anyone else adapt in the gym. If you’re looking to do the same at your gym, message us today! 📸: @delaney.hoppy by @adaptiveathleteexperience
The AAE seminar x @gainzfitnessabq First time in New Mexico with the AAE and Gainz Fitness was incredibly welcoming. The staff and members were amazing and truly care about adaptive and inclusive fitness. Tori (gym owner) says this seminar far exceeded her expectations. Her staff far exceeded ours. If you are interested in the AAE seminar (no matter where you are, we come to you) message us today! by @adaptiveathleteexperience
