thank you @jheneaiko for pulling the depths of my soul and pouring it into this masterpiece of a song. i first discovered “limbo limbo limbo” at the peak of my existential despair. i remember feeling understood in a way that transcends understanding; embodied in a fashion that puts creation itself to shame. this is as much a homage to your musical prophecy as it is to my celestial frequency. this is love. this is loss. this is limbo.

i’ve existed in a state of uncertainty for as long as i can remember. becoming and unbecoming, being and unbeing. i float on the edges of relationships, friendships, my reality and the reality of the world around me. disassociated. never fully belonging above or below. a free bird that flies for lack of a resting place. teetering on the bridge between heaven and hell, caught in a dance between love and loss. a woman who cannot be, because she does not belong. not to you, not to herself, not to anyone. a woman who lives in limbo. amankeme. les limbes. limbo.

when the deliberation period for graduation rolled around, i was uncertain about many things. my hair, my outfit, how i wanted to celebrate and how i wanted to be celebrated during this milestone. the one thing i remained unwavering about, however, was my decision to use Rihanna’s “Towards the Sun” as the soundtrack to this post and my academic success at large.

growing up, i had many a reason to give up on things. many more reasons to look beyond my tribulations in hopes of a brighter future. as disconnected as i am from all the former versions of myself, the one thing we all had in common was our pressing need to see tomorrow. face the battle, win the war. this song carried me through several battles, and i have never been prouder to conquer any one of them as much as this one. this is for every version of Adaugo that ever was, and every version of Adaugo that will ever be. congratulations Adaugo. the shadows are finally behind you. the best is yet to come, and i can’t wait to watch you win the war.
