At museums, we’re told not to touch things to maintain their preservation. During my time in CDMX, I came across many different places whose walls and floors were off limits to touch and some whose I was free to feel. I think these images I took capture their feeling perfectly - texture is so powerful because your body assumes what something will feel like based on what it looks like.

This image belongs to a stained glass door of the Basilica of Our Lady Guadalupe.

This is an off limits wall belonging to a mural of Aztec art in Tenochtitlan.

I impressed a man who owns a Oaxacan restaurant in the neighborhood of Coyoacán after I almost finished an entire tlayuda by myself… my biggest achievement!

Traveling to eat is one of my favorite things to do, but do know that my stomach is suffering and I am never going anywhere without Tums and Pepto. (Beano is also recommended) taken in Mexico City, Mexico by @adaylin_alvarez

I was inspired by all of the vibrant produce at the Union Square Farmers Market and decided to challenge myself: only buy purple produce.

From there, I bought a ton of stuff and tried to make it into something cohesive, balanced, beautiful, and (most importantly) yummy.

This is my take on the color purple.

Not bought at the farmers market are the guajillo chilies (top left).

Most surprising items to me at the farmers market were: purple tomatillos and purple bell peppers.

GORGEOUS!!!!

I was really excited for the purple string beans, which I left raw to bring some crunch and freshness to the salad. I also left them raw because cooking string beans turns them green (something I did research on before doing this, which I am grateful for).

Purple basil is more floral, punchy, and peppery than normal basil, but still overall has a basil taste and profile. The smell is also amazing.

Purple tomatillos thankfully don’t turn green, but do turn grey/brown when overcooked so I decided to lightly steam them in order to preserve/enhance the color as much as possible in a salsa.

Some of my notes into how I was going to make the salsa with purple tomatillos! My brain sometimes goes 100mph when I get inspired so I had to sit down and do some research on what would work and wouldn’t work in a salsa.

GORGEOUSSS

Not as purple as I wish it could’ve been, but still more of a maroon red than your typical red salsa so i’ll take that as a win.

This was my yummy salad, with @shewolfbakery sesame croutons.

The trevisano (red cabbage/endive like leaves) really made the color pop here.

My chicken wrap with homemade flatbread, rotisserie chicken, homemade tzatziki, and my “purple” salsa.

How do I get the inspiration to cook every single day? I love color!

Sometimes just going to the farmer’s market and walking through all the stands will inspire me. Seeing what’s in season will spark my creativity.

Panzanella!

- Stone fruits are in season (peaches and cherries)
- Croutons with bread from @shewolfbakery
- Heirloom tomatoes
- Cucumbers
- Red onions

all tossed with red wine vinegar, olive oil, salt, and black pepper to taste.

Flatbread sandwich!

Stopped by Sahadi’s and was so inspired by the shawarma wraps they had and I wanted to make one myself.

Black garlic and sesame ahi tuna poke: savory, slightly sweet, and very bright!

A different take on my black garlic and sesame ahi tuna poke.

Mussels and littleneck clams à la mix of escabecha and paella sauce, so so so yummy and smoky and fresh and spicy.

Carne asada skirt steak tacos, prepped on a tiny grill over charcoal briquettes for some of that smoky charred flavor.

Mahi Mahi ceviche, Peruvian style, with some sweet potatoes and lovely shrimp. by @adaylin_alvarez
